Book on DT Damione Lewis

Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Miami (Fla.) DT DAMIONE LEWIS since the beginning of the college-football season.

Feb. 28
Outside of two games that he missed, Lewis played through a toe injury in his right foot which was originally sustained against Washington in early September. At full strength, he's been a major force at DT since his redshirt freshman season in '97, when he led the Hurricanes' defensive linemen with 72 stops.

Feb. 7
Instinctive DT with the quickness and natural explosion to wreak havoc along the interior.

Jan.12
Lewis got healthy later in the year and has started to come on. He's 6-foot-2, 283 pounds and very quick. He gets great leverage at the point of attack.

Jan. 4
When he's at full strength, Lewis's quickness and ability to gain a leverage advantage makes him incredibly difficult to handle along the interior. Just ask the Florida Gators!

Dec. 31
Whenever Lewis is healthy, he has proven to be a real force in the middle. The 6-foot-2, 283-pounder utilizes leverage, shows outstanding initial quickness and can also close effectively on sack or hurry opportunities. I also like the fact that he did his best to play through the toe injury in his right foot that he suffered early in the campaign against Washington.

Dec. 7
Put together a number of very solid performances later in the campaign, but much of the season he was forced to play through a toe injury in his right foot that he suffered during the Hurricanes' loss at Washington on Sept. 9.

Nov. 29
Faces constant double-teaming on the interior, finishing with two tackles in the Hurricanes' decisive victory over Boston College.

Nov. 22
Proved to be tough to block and very active in the Hurricanes' 26-0 shutout of Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. Lewis recorded one stop behind the line of scrimmage and also came through with one sack for an 11-yard loss.

Nov. 15
Outside of games against Rutgers and Temple, Lewis has been able to play through the toe injury in his right foot he suffered early on this season in the Hurricanes loss at Washington. Although still not at a hundred percent, Lewis has managed to put together a number of steady performances. Last week against Pittsburgh he totaled four stops, one QB pressure, and one pass deflection.

Oct. 5
On the injury front for Miami, senior DT Damione Lewis should be ready to go this week after sitting out the Rutgers game with a toe injury. This brought to an end his string of 29 consecutive starts. His 34 career starts are the most by a Hurricane defensive lineman. Lewis hasn't been practicing, but figures to play through the toe injury against the Seminoles.

Sept. 14

Defensively against Washington, Miami received a solid performance up front from highly regarded senior DT Damione Lewis. Despite being double-teamed most of the day, the talented 6-foot-2, 283-pounder still managed to make his presence felt. Lewis registered 12 stops behind the line of scrimmage, two QB pressures, one sack and also caused an interception when he hit Marques Tuiasosopo just as he was throwing the ball.
