Book on RB Kevan Barlow

Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Pittsburgh RB KEVAN BARLOW since the beginning of the college-football season.

Kevan Barlow
Pittsburgh RB Kevan Barlow (43) dives for a touchdown against West Virginia in a Nov. 24 game.
Jan. 4
Impressive all-around big back, able to put together an outstanding final campaign with the Panthers.

Dec. 31
The more you watch Barlow in game action from this season, the easier it becomes to elevate him on the draft board. Not only does the 6-foot-1, 235-pounder have the ability to run effectively between the tackles, but you would be surprised by the bounce he shows to the outside and the quickness he displays when turning the corner. While he has lacked game-to-game consistency, Barlow may be the type of all-around talent who is worth rolling the dice for a little earlier in the draft than some may expect.

Dec. 7
Even though he's 235 pounds, Barlow isn't limited to just running up the gut. He's also demonstrated the quickness necessary to bounce outside and turn the corner. Against Boston College and West Virginia he performed to the level of a high first-rounder, but over the long haul with the Panthers, he has lacked a little game-to-game consistency.

Nov. 29
The physically talented 6-foot-1, 235-pounder can pound it effectively between the tackles, yet he also shows the quickness and speed to bounce outside and turn the corner. Against West Virginia, he surpassed his previous season-high rushing total of 209 yards against Boston College, finishing with 272 yards on 33 carries. Included were four TD runs covering 56, 30, 24 and 2 yards. His 272 yards rushing was the second-best total in school history behind only Tony Dorsett's 303. This was also the second-best rushing total in Big East history, behind only former Miami RB Edgerrin James (299 yards).

Oct. 26
A 6-foot-1, 235-pounder with quick feet, enough elusiveness, the ability to bounce it outside and the power to hit it up between the tackles. Last week against Boston College, Barlow really impressed, finally coming through with the type of performance you expect from a RB with his skill level. He carried the ball 25 times for 209 yards, scoring on a TD run of 45 yards, while also hauling in a TD reception covering 11 yards. Barlow reminds me a great deal of the Falcons' Jamal Anderson.
