Agrivating General done for '04

Agrivating General, who would have been one of the leading contenders in the $100,000 Texas Hall of Fame Stakes on Saturday night at Retama Park, will miss the race, said his trainer, Danny Pish.

"We just made the decision," said Pish.

Pish said Agrivating General will have the next 120 days off. He had some "slight lameness" in his hind end, and is now scheduled to launch his comeback next year.

"It's not one big problem, just a lot of little ones," said Pish.

Agrivating General has won 7 of 21 starts and $267,150 for his owner and breeder, Lonnie Bates. He won three straight races this summer at Lone Star, including the opening-night $50,000 Premiere Stakes.

Agrivating General was one of the top contenders in the Hall of Fame, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for Texas-breds that highlights the annual Texas Hall of Fame night at Retama. The program features six restricted Thoroughbred stakes worth $470,000.

Pish, who leads the standings at Retama, will be active with three other starters on the card. His best chance for victory might lie with Leaving on My Mind, who returns to the main track, where he is stakes-placed, in the $125,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Stallion Stakes.

Roman Chapa, the leading rider at Retama, will be aboard Leaving on My Mind.

Unlike years past, there will be no gala Saturday night inducting new members into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame. This year, the ceremonies are being split. The Quarter Horse inductees were honored at Sam Houston, while Thoroughbred horsemen Will Farish and Nelson Bunker Hunt will be inducted next month at Lone Star.
