MIAMI -- A year ago, Gold Mover had to outfinish 1-2 favorite and reigning Eclipse Award winner Xtra Heat to win Calder's Princess Rooney Handicap . On Saturday, Gold Mover had to work even harder to outlast 60-1 longshot Vision in Flight by a nose in the Grade 2, $500,000 Princess Rooney.

Gold Mover, a 5-year-old daughter of Gold Fever, stalked the pace of Harmony Lodge from the outset of the six-furlong Princess Rooney. She took the lead inside the eighth pole and was immediately hooked and briefly headed by Vision in Flight. But under vigorous handling by jockey Jerry Bailey, Gold Mover fought back and narrowly prevailed.

"It was really too close to call," said Bailey. "The other filly had her head in front of us at one point and my horse showed an awful lot of gameness to come back and win like she did."

Owned by her breeder, Edward P. Evans, and trained by Mark Hennig, Gold Mover paid $5 as the favorite in a field of eight. Her final time for six furlongs was 1:11.31 over a fast track.

Calder-based Vision in Flight had finished second in each of her two starts preceding the Princess Rooney, both overnight stakes. The Princess Rooney marked the graded stakes debut of Vision in Flight, who is trained by Marty Wolfson.

Harmony Lodge weakened in the final furlong to finish third, 4 1/4 lengths behind the top pair.

"As if it wasn't hot enough today, I had to sweat that one out," said Hennig shortly after the results of the tight photo had been posted. "It was a thrill to come here last year and beat Xtra Heat and great to come back and win it again. She really had to work to get that victory today, holding off a local horse like that with a lot more experience over this track.

"She is one of my all time favorite horses," Henning added. "She goes out there every day and does her job and does it with a smile. We'll probably run her next in the Ballerina [Aug. 24 at Saratoga]. It's a Grade 1 and that's about the only thing she doesn't have on her record."

Gold Mover joined Baby Shark, who won the Rocket Man Stakes earlier in the day, as the only repeat winners in the four-year history of the Summit of Speed.
