Skimming tops 6-horse Pacific Classic field

A field of six horses has been entered for Sunday's 11th running of the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar. Skimming, who went wire-to-wire in this race last year, will return to defend his crown and has been installed by the track as the 8-5 morning-line favorite. Garrett Gomez will have the mount aboard Skimming, who will break from post 3.

The top challengers to Skimming in the 1 1/4-mile grade 1 event are expected to be second-choice Futural at 9-5, and Captain Steve at 3-1. Futural will break from post 2 with Chris McCarron in the irons, while Captain Steve drew the far outside, post 6. Victor Espinoza will have the mount on Captain Steve.

The field is rounded out by Until Sundown who drew post 1 with Gary Stevens aboard, Dig For It who drew post 4 with Alex Solis, and Dixie Dot Com who will start from post 5 under David Flores.
