| Captain Steve draws rail in Foster By Noel Michaels Daily Racing Form | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Captain Steve, the 123-pound highweight in a field of eight going to post in the Grade 2 Stephen Foster Handicap, drew the rail and will be ridden by Jerry Bailey in Saturday's $750,000 feature race at 1 1/8-miles at Churchill Downs. Captain Steve, the country's second-ranked handicap horse according to Daily Racing Form's Watchmaker Watch, will be making his first start since travelling to Dubai and winning the $6 million Dubai World Cup back on March 24. Thanks to the winner's share of $3,600,000 from that race, Captain Steve, trained by Bob Baffert, comes into the Stephen Foster with career earnings of more than $6.5 million. Captain Steve's top challenge is expected to come from Unshaded, who
won last year's Travers Stakes at Saratoga for trainer Carl Nafzger but
then was forced to miss the remainder of the year with a tendon injury.
Unshaded won a Churchill allowance in his return to the races last month,
and will be the likely second-favorite. Unshaded drew post eight and will
carry 118 pounds with Robby Albarado aboard.
