NEW YORK -- Tiznow nosed out Sakhee at the finish after a thrilling stretch duel to win the $4 million Breeders' Cup Classic at the World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park on Saturday.

Tiznow, the 2000 Horse of the Year, was inside, and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner was outside as they ran eyeball-to-eyeball the final 16th of a mile.

But in the end, it was the American champion finishing just ahead of the 4-year-old Sakhee, owned by Godolphin Stable and operated by the Maktoum brothers of Dubai.

Ridden by Chris McCarron, Tiznow became the first horse to win back-to-back Classics. Last year, Tiznow beat Giant's Causeway in the Classic.

Albert the Great set a grueling early pace but still finished third for trainer Nick Zito.

Tiznow, trained by Jay Robbins, covered the 1 1-4 miles in 2:00 3-5, went off as the 6-1 fourth choice in the betting behind 2-1 Aptitude, 3-1 Galileo and 9-2 Sakhee.

Aptitude, trained by Bobby Frankel, finished eighth. Galileo was sixth.

Tiznow, who finished third in the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap in his last start Oct. 7, has three wins, a second and two thirds in six starts this year. Last year, he won five of nine starts to earn Horse of the Year honors.

The winner paid $15.80, $7.20 and $5.60. Sakhee returned $7.80 and $4.40 and Albert the Great paid $7.80.

Macho Uno was fourth, followed by Guided Tour, Galileo, Include, Aptitude, Gander, Black Minnaloushe, A Fleets Dancer, Orientate, and Freedom Crest.
