NEW YORK -- A fund established to help the children and spouses of firefighters, police officers, emergency workers and other victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks received $2.7 million Saturday from Breeders' Cup purses.

Godolphin Racing, whose horses won two races, contributed $2.5 million -- all of its purse money from the World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park.

In September, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum donated $5 million to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. He was at the Keeneland yearling sale when the attacks occurred in New York and Washington.

Godolphin is the racing operation of al Maktoum and his two brothers from Saudi Arabia.

Godolphin's Fantastic Light won the Turf, worth $1,112,800. In the Juvenile Fillies, Tempera and Imperial Gesture finished 1-2, earning Godolphin a total of $720,000.
