1. Wellington High (West Palm Beach, Fla.) - (22-0) *1 The Wolverines put their 45-game winning streak on the line this week at the highly regarded National Classic Baseball Tournament at Cal State Fullerton in Orange County, Calif. Their first game of the classic, against Delbarton Prep of New Jersey, was rained out. Wellington enters the tourney, which it won in 1998, with a team batting average of .392 and pitchers Sean Burnett (6-0; 1.07 ERA) and junior Brian Stitt (8-0; 1.11 ERA) at the top of their games.

2. Bellaire High (Bellaire, Texas) - (22-1) *3 Bellaire routed Houston-area opponents Worthington, Robert E. Lee and St. Thomas High by a combined score of 48-6 to increase its season total to 282 runs. Bellaire is now hitting .388 as a team. In a recent three-game stint, Eric Fitzpatrick led the way by going a combined 7-for-7 against Lee and St. Thomas, while Enrique Cruz, who is the younger brother of Toronto center fielder Jose Cruz Jr., has been a defensive force.

3. Providence Catholic (New Lenox, Ill.) - (11-0) *4 Providence won four games last week to remain undefeated.

4. Steinert High (Hamilton Township, N.J.) - (7-0) *5 Steinert won five games last week to keep its perfect record intact.

5. Bishop Kenny High (Jacksonville, Fla.) - (22-1) *6 Florida's top 4A squad hasn't played since the last poll.

6. Westlake High (Westlake Village, Calif.) - (16-0) *8 Westlake followed Jess Kozlowski's one-hit, 6-0 shutout over Agoura High with an 8-5 win over Royal High to keep its hopes of an undefeated season alive.

7. Rancho Bernardo High (San Diego, Calif.) - (14-2) *2 The Broncos won three games last week, but fell to Fallbrook High, 8-7, for their second loss of the season. Danny Putnam went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a triple and two runs scored in a 10-1 win over El Camino High.

8. Merritt Island High (Merritt Island, Fla.) - (21-2) *7 Merritt Island remained atop the state 5A poll despite suffering its second loss of the season.

9. Silverado High (Las Vegas, Nev.) - (16-2) *9 The Skyhawks followed a 6-3 come-from-behind win over Chaparral High two weeks ago with two more wins to remain in the top 10.

10. Moody High (Corpus Christi, Texas) - (25-1-1) *10 Moody won one game and earned a rare tie in another.

11. Oakland High (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) - (18-2) *11 The Patriots won the battle of Tennessee's top undefeated teams by claiming a 5-1 win over No. 24 Germantown High at the Patriot Classic in Murfreesboro. Oakland lefty John Williams, who signed with Middle Tennessee State, struck out 10 Red Devil batters in pitching a five-hitter. He improved his record to 5-0 on the season and 32-2 for his career.

12. Lowndes County High (Valdosta, Ga.) - (24-2) *12 The Vikings rebounded from losses to Tift County and Valdosta High by capturing the regular-season Region 1-AAAA title with an 8-1 win over Colquitt County High. Right-hander Jordan Crews earned the win for the Vikings, who have outscored their last five opponents by a combined score of 51-2.

13. Barbe High (Lake Charles, La.) - (26-4) *15 Barbe's winning streak reached 16 games as it remained atop its state 5A poll. Sophomore pitcher Chris Denton, hitting machine Eric Bruchhause (.477) and highly regarded junior Austin Nagle (.450) continued to dominate.

14. Kamiakin High (Kennewick, Wash.) - (8-0) *16 Kamiakin won two games last week to remain atop the state poll.

15. Chambersburg High (Chambersburg, Pa.) - (6-1) *17 The Class AAA defending champion has won two games since last poll.

16. Gloucester Catholic High (Gloucester City, N.J.) - ( 6-0) *19 The defending Parochial Class A champion has cruised through its first six games.

17. Zephyrhills Hills (Zephyrhills, Fla.) - (26-1) *24 The Bulldogs won three games last week to set a school record for single-season victories, and retained their No. 2 Class 4A state ranking behind No. 5 Bishop Kenny.

18. La Quinta High (La Quinta, Calif.) - (19-0) *NR The Aztecs enter the poll after winning their first 19 games, including three last week. They routed Rancho Alamitos, 10-0, as Jim Garbey struck out seven batters. They also beat Garden Grove, 6-5, and Saddleback, 9-0. Arnulfo Arroyo hit a three-run shot against Saddleback.

19. Stillwater High (Stillwater, Okla.) - (25-2) *NR Stillwater is expected to debut at No. 1 in the state Class 6A poll this week. Coach Gary Gardner's Pioneers have lost in-state only once, falling to Owasso. A veteran pitching staff and an explosive hitting attack that has produced 50 home runs in 27 games - including four in a 15-0 win against previously ranked Jenks - have lifted the Pioneers ahead of powers Owasso, Yukon and Jenks.

20. Riverdale Baptist High (Upper Marlboro, Md.) - (21-3) *13 After reeling off 18 straight wins, the Crusaders lost two straight games by one run each. They dropped a third game last week to Good Counsel, 6-5, in the Riverdale Baptist Spring Classic.

21. Fountain Valley High (Fountain Valley, Calif.) - (14-3) *14 The Barons lost once, but rebounded with a 4-3 win over Taylorsville High of Utah in the National Classic in Orange County, Calif. Josh Bartusiak struck out nine in four innings. Casey Janssen hit his seventh home run of the season in the fourth inning.

22. Rio Grande High (Rio Grande, N.M.) - (17-0) *NR Rio Grande enters the poll after cruising to 17 straight wins.

23. Duncanville High (Duncanville, Texas) - (21-2) *21 Duncanville won three games last week, but was routed, 10-0, by Mansfield High and its star pitcher, Trey Taylor, who tossed a five-inning no-hitter. Duncanville still holds a two-game lead in District 7-5A.

24. Germantown High (Germantown, Tenn.) - (15-1) *23 Germantown lost its first game of the season to No. 11 Oakland High, 5-1, at the Patriot Classic in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

25. Canyon del Oro High (Tucson, Ariz.) - (20-4) *25 Canyon del Oro won its 20th game of the season, but lost for the second time in two weeks. No more room for losses.
