National Hockey Top 10

1. Mount St. Charles HS (Woonsocket, R.I.) - (12-0-0) *2
The new No. 1 team had no trouble with Warwick High on Friday night. Matt Roy, Dan Maturi and Mike Picone all found the back of the net twice as the Mounties cruised, 12-2.

2. Elk River HS (Elk River, Minn.) - (14-1-1) *3
Elk River wasn't tested this week, either. Joel Hanson picked up a hat trick and Matt Jackson added two goals in the team's 8-0 blanking of Blaine High. Kelly Prude helped out on those goals with three assists.

3. Academy of the Holy Angels (Richfield, Minn.) - (15-1-1) *4
The easy wins keep coming for the nation's best teams. Holy Angels ripped Hutchinson High, 12-1, behind a three-goal effort from Jim Kilpatrick. Matt Kronick, Dan Kaiser and Rob Rankin each netted a pair of goals in the blowout.

4. Detroit Catholic Central HS (Redford, Mich.) - (12-0-2) *5
Trailing 3-1 after one period to Port Huron Northern High, Catholic Central rallied and won an offensive-minded game, 8-6. Brett John scored three times, with teammates Jim Spiewak and Jared Ross each adding a pair of goals. CC also beat Clarkston High, 4-1, this week.

5. Arlington HS (Arlington, Mass.) - (11-1-0) *1
Billerica High stopped Arlington dead in its tracks. The perfect 11-0 start is gone, and so is the nation's No. 1 ranking after a 1-0 loss to Billerica. Arlington did defeat Waltham High, 4-2, this week.

6. Armstrong HS (Robbinsdale, Minn.) - (17-0-1) *NR
The newest name in this week's Top 10 is Armstrong. In the hockey-crazed state of Minnesota, Armstrong is still undefeated. Aaron Johnson scored three goals and Joey McElroy netted the other in Armstrong's 4-2 win over Wayzata High. The squad also crushed Cooper High, 8-1, with Jason Kaufmann and Derek Bredesen scoring two goals apiece.

7. White Bear Lake HS (White Bear Lake, Minn.) - (14-3-1) *8
Eric Aarnio was masterful in the net as White Bear Lake edged Roseville High, 2-1. Aarnio stopped 28 shots and got goals from Tim Hambly and Jeff Snyder to pick up the victory.

8. Jefferson HS (Bloomington, Minn.) - (15-3-0) *9
With a 3-1 victory over Eden Prairie High this week, Jefferson pulled even for the lead in the Lake Conference. Matt Duncan turned in a two-goal performance to spark Jefferson. Both Jefferson and Eden Prairie have 9-2 records in league play, and the teams have split this season's meetings, with Eden Prairie winning, 4-3, on Dec. 5. Nick Coffman scored twice as Jefferson handled Rosemount High, 4-1, in the team's other game this past week.

9. University School (Milwaukee, Wis.) - (14-1-0) *10
Slowly moving up in the world is the U School. University picked up victories this past week against Waupun High, 5-2, Appleton High, 4-0, Madison Edgewood High, 4-0, and Lake Forest Academy (Ill.), 5-0.

10. Catholic Memorial HS (Boston, Mass.) - (8-3-1) *NR
Despite a 3-2 loss to Xaverian Brothers High this week, CM moves into the Top 10. The team blanked Boston College High, 5-0, and hammered St. John's Prep, 9-0. Coach Bill Hanson picked up his 400th career win in the St. John's game while getting four goals from Chris Myers.

Dropped Out:

No. 6 Stevenson HS (Livonia, Mich.) - (13-0-3)
Another costly tie, this time against Walled Lake Central High, which sports a 2-5-1 record, drops Stevenson out of the Top 10.

No. 7 Austin Prep (Reading, Mass.) - (10-1-2)
Austin posted its second 3-3 tie of the season against Arlington Catholic High to fall out of the Top 10.
