Weekly Stars

Pierre Pierce - Westmont High (Ill.)
Boys' Basketball
Pierce spent Christmas week piercing through opposing defenses. The 6-foot-2 senior set a tourney record with 160 points in four games at the Lemont Christmas Tournament. Although Westmont lost in the title contest, the University of Iowa-bound guard was spectacular. He broke the single-game tournament record with 46 points and also scored 44, 31 and 39 points in the other three games.

Ginger Quinonez - Harrison High (N.J.)
Girls' Basketball
Quinonez broke her own single-game school record of 50 points by pouring in 53 points in a 77-57 win over Bloomfield Tech in the first round of the Blue Tide Yule Tide tournament last week. The 5-foot-9 senior guard also proved she isn't just a one-dimensional player by grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out six assists. Then, in the tournament championship game, Quinonez racked up 20 points, 11 boards, six assists and seven steals in a 70-50 win over Dickinson High.

Chris Nathe - Elk River High (Minn.)
Boys' Ice Hockey
Nathe, a senior defenseman, netted seven goals in three games last weekend to lead Elk River to the championship of the Hastings Hockey Shootout. The converted forward's biggest game came in a 6-0 shutout of Holy Angels Academy in the semifinals on Dec. 29, when Nathe scored five of his team's six goals. Nathe then tallied one goal in a 6-5 overtime win over Moorhead High in the championship game.

Leticia Goosby - New London High (Conn.)
Girls' Basketball
Goosby didn't post any eye-popping statistics in one category, but her simple consistency and all-around performance on Dec. 28 are worthy of notice. Goosby recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 12 steals to lead New London to a 68-59 overtime victory over Stamford High.

Daryl Hill - Flushing Cardozo High (N.Y.)
Boys' Basketball
Hill was a one-man scoring machine for Flushing Cardozo last week, tallying three straight games of more than 40 points. Hill hit the half-century mark with 50 points in an 87-62 win over Francis Lewis High and also scored 41 points in a 92-68 blowout victory over Columbus High.
