National Wrestling Top 25



1. Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.) - (3-0) *1
Blair Academy won the Mid Atlantic Tournament with 230 points and four individual champions. Robbie Preston (103 pounds), Cory Cooperman (125), Zack Esposito (145) and Steve Mocco (275) all won titles. Mocco was also named MVP and had the most falls for the meet. Other placers were Mark Perry (130) in fourth, Zach Stevens (135) in fifth and Kurt Backes (189) in third.

2. St. Edward HS (Lakewood, Ohio) - (0-0) *2
St. Edward finished second in the Mid Atlantic Tournament with 214.5 points. Mark Moos (112) was the team's lone individual champion, but plenty of wrestlers placed. Matt Koz (215) took second, Ryan Lang (125) placed third, Chris Vondruska (130) finished eighth, Paul Dunstan (140) came in third and Andy Rios (189) took third.

3. Easton HS (Easton, Pa.) - (3-0) *3
Easton defeated No. 17 Nazareth High, 32-24.

4. Lewis Central HS (Council Bluffs, Iowa) - (3-0) *4
Lewis Central won its own tournament with seven champions and 255.5 points to runner-up Milliard High's (Neb.) 201. Placing were Dylan Davis (112) in third, Ben Moss (125) in first, Chad Davis (130) in first, Brandon Mason (135) in first, Nick Hayes (140) in second, Trent Paulson (145) in first, Aaron Smith (152) in first, Blake Anderson (160) in first, Cole O'Hara (171) in second and Jon Clanton (189) in first.

5. Midwest City HS (Midwest City, Okla.) - (5-0) *5
Midwest City beat Edmond Memorial High, 49-23, and Choctaw High, 50-16.

6. Bakersfield HS (Bakersfield, Calif.) - (8-0) *9
Bakersfield upset five-time California state champion Calvary Chapel High, 34-27, in Bakersfield, Calif.

7. Broken Arrow HS (Broken Arrow, Okla.) - (4-1) *7
Broken Arrow had its dual match with No. 8 El Reno High postponed due to snow in Oklahoma.

8. El Reno HS (El Reno, Okla.) - (3-0) *8
El Reno had its dual match with No. 7 Broken Arrow postponed due to snow in Oklahoma.

9. Providence Catholic HS (New Lenox, Ill.) - (11-0) *10
Providence went 4-0 in the Rapids Duals with wins over No. 20 Lincoln High, 32-21, Wrightstown High, 51-12, Sugar River High, 61-6, and River Falls High, 46-16.

10. Urbandale HS (Urbandale, Iowa) - (4-0) *11
Urbandale defeated Des Moines North High, 42-6.

11. Northampton HS (Northampton, Pa.) - (3-0) *12
Northampton finished third in the Mid Atlantic Tournament with 191 points and three individual champions. Champions were Aaron Suranofsky (119), Phil Hard (189) and Seth Lisa (135). Other placers were Jeff Ecklof (130) in fourth, Josh Haines (160) in eighth and Joe Lukachik (275) in fourth.

12. Great Bridge HS (Chesapeake, Va.) - (3-0) *13
Finished fourth in the Mid Atlantic Tournament with 155 points and one individual champion: Michael Martin (130). Other placers were Christian Staylor (103) in second, Daniel Frishkorn (119) in sixth and David Dashiell (215) in fifth.

13. Calvary Chapel HS (Santa Anna, Calif.) - (10-1) *6
Calvary Chapel was upset by new No. 6 Bakersfield High, 34-27.

14. Bristow HS (Bristow, Okla.) - (1-0) *14
Idle.

15. Perry HS (Perry, Okla.) - (0-0) *15
Idle.

16. Owatonna HS (Owatonna, Minn.) - (8-0) *16
Owatonna defeated Bemidji High, 36-24, and St. Cloud Tech, 44-15.

17. Nazareth HS (Nazareth, Pa.) - (2-1) *17
Nazareth finished fifth in the Mid Atlantic Tournament with 142.50 points. Travis Frick (171) was the team's lone individual champ. Other placers were Eric Frick (125) in fifth, Luke Morris (189) in seventh and Jamie Kleinle (275) in fifth.

18. Apple Valley HS (Apple Valley, Minn.) - (8-0) *18
Apple Valley won the Minnesota Christmas Tournament with 168 points to Bloomington Kennedy High's 140.5. The team placed eight wrestlers, including three runners-up.

19. Phillipsburg HS (Phillipsburg, N.J.) - (2-0) *19

20. Lincoln HS (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) - (11-1) *20
Lincoln went 4-1 in the Rapids Duals. Lost to No. 10 Providence High, 32-21, but beat Sugar River High, 67-0, River Falls High, 33-19, Fenwick High, 50-17, and Wrightstown High, 51-15.

21. Grundy HS (Grundy, Va.) - (4-0) *21
Grundy defeated Blacksburg High, 58-18, Graham High, 74-6, and Lord Botetourt High, 53-15.

22. South Plainfield HS (South Plainfield, N.J.) - (1-0) *22

23. Mater Dei HS (Evansville, Ind.) - (4-0) *23

Mount Carmel was scheduled to wrestle in the Worthington Midwest Classic in Ohio but got snowed in due to inclement weather in Chicago.
