| National Football Recruiting Buzz By Jeff Goodman SchoolSports.com | ||||||

'Bama Blues Croyle tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the first game of the season and is ahead of schedule on his rehab. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound signal-caller is regarded as the top passer in the nation despite missing nearly the entire year with the knee injury.
Croyle had wanted to decide between the three schools earlier this month, but the coaching situation at nearby Alabama -- with Mike DuBose being fired -- has delayed his decision. Croyle says he will probably wait until the new coach is named, and he also wants to make sure the program isn't placed on probation. Regardless of the outcome, look for Croyle to head to Tallahassee. He is a big fan of 'Noles coach Bobby Bowden, and FSU has all that he is looking for, including a pass-happy system, a dominant offensive line and a chance to compete for the national title every season.
Tough Choice Huckeba is being recruited for the defensive side of the ball, and his dad realizes that the chances of Huckeba ending up at Harding are slim. "I think it's natural for him to put Harding on the list because he's grown up here and we have a special place here," says Ronnie. "He and I have a great relationship, and naturally he'd consider playing for his dad. But he's also very drawn by all the Division I programs." Huckeba, who runs a sub-4.5 40-yard time, attended the Florida State game against Florida recently, along with several other highly touted recruits, and already has several in-house visits, including one with Nebraska.
Grading Out Cal has re-entered the picture after offering him a scholarship as an undersized sophomore. Alexander is also interested in Oregon and UCLA and will visit Miami and Georgia Tech. USC was also in the running, but with the firing of coach Paul Hackett, the Trojans are a long shot. "He did everything but wind the clock for us," says St. Mary's coach Dan Shaughnessy. "He's a wonderful ballplayer. I've been at it for 41 years, and he's the best player I've ever had."
