Final National Boys' Soccer Top 10

1. Horizon HS (Thornton, Colo.) -- (20-0-0) *1
Horizon took over the top spot a couple of weeks ago and will finish the season there. Capping a perfect season with a 4-1 drubbing of highly regarded Highlands Ranch High on Nov. 8 sealed Horizon's place in history.

2. John Jay HS (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) -- (25-0-0) *6
A relatively late inclusion in the Top 10, John Jay stormed through arguably one of the best soccer states in the country.
Mark Trapp
Mark Trapp couldn't keep former No. 10 North Olmsted High (Ohio) from losing in the state finals.
John Jay blanked Bethlehem High in the semifinals before handing former No. 3 Sachem High a 4-1 loss in the finals.

3. St. Benedicts HS (Newark, N.J.) -- (19-0-2) *2
Sorry St. Benedicts, but John Jay's run to a state title in New York was impressive enough to finish the season in the second spot. That doesn't take anything away from what St. Benedicts accomplished this season. The boys from Jersey won the state parochial title with a 3-0 shutout of Peddie High a few weeks ago.

4. Davis HS (Davis, Calif.) -- (27-1-1) *4
Davis' season ended more than a week ago with a Sac-Joaquin sectional title. Beyer High pushed Davis to the limit, but the fourth-best team in the country responded with a 2-1 overtime victory to assure itself the No. 4 ranking.

5. Walt Whitman HS (Bethesda, Md.) -- (16-0-2) *7
Chris Gormley, Seth Schreiber, Augustine Medugu and David Glaudemanns all scored as Whitman won the Maryland Class 4A state final with a 4-1 victory against Bowie High. The Vikings didn't find their way into the Top 10 until late in the season, but they finished the year at No. 5.

6. Brother Rice Academy (Birmingham, Mich.) -- (23-1-1) *5
Rice slipped a bit despite having tied for the state championship more than a week ago. Whitman's undefeated season vaulted it past Brother Rice, but Rice was almost as impressive this season. Rice earned a share of the state title with a 2-2 tie in the finals against De La Salle High.

7. Ludlow HS (Ludlow, Mass.) -- (20-0-2) *NR
There is no question where the center of the Massachusetts soccer world is. Ludlow finished off an undefeated season with a 2-0 victory over Marshfield High in the state finals. Paul Martins and Jay Devlin each scored in the championship win. The Ludlow girls' soccer team also wrapped up a state title with a win over Marshfield.

8. Asheville HS (Asheville, N.C.) -- (26-0-1) *NR
Asheville took home top honors in North Carolina with a 1-0 state final win over East Chapel Hill High on Saturday. Coleman Hall netted the game's only goal and Michael Young recorded the shutout in net.

9. Edwardsville HS (Edwardsville, Ill.) -- (25-3-1) *9
An up-and-down season for Edwardsville finished with the squad beating highly touted Lincoln-Way High in the state finals two weeks ago. The roller-coaster year ends with Edwardsville in the No. 9 spot.

10. Sachem HS (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) -- (20-1-1) *3
Sachem's incredible season cannot be lost in one game. The team may have lost a 4-1 contest to No. 2 John Jay High in the state finals, but Sachem achieved enough this season to remain in the Top 10.

Dropped Out:
No. 8 Clifton HS (Clifton, N.J.) (19-2-2) --- lost to Cherokee High, 2-1, in the state finals.
No. 10 North Olmsted HS (North Olmsted, Ohio) (19-3-1) --- lost to Worthington Kilbourne High, 2-0, in the state finals.
