1. Horizon HS (Thornton, Colo.) - (20-0-0) *1
With Horizon winning the Colorado state title thanks to a 4-1 victory over Highlands Ranch High on Nov. 8, the team will remain the nation's No. 1 team for the fall season.
2. St. Benedicts HS (Newark, N.J.) - (19-0-2) *2
St. Benedicts will stand pat as well. The squad from New Jersey also won its state title more than a week ago with a 3-0 victory against Peddie High.
3. Sachem HS (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) - (19-0-1) *3
The Flaming Arrows are playing and winning. Sachem blanked Oceanside High, 2-0, to earn a date with Kenmore East High in the state semifinals this Saturday (Nov. 18). Eddie Swanson and Peter Ramirez scored the goals against Oceanside.
4. Davis HS (Davis, Calif.) - (27-1-1) *6
One of the hardest-working teams in soccer won its 26th and 27th games this week. First, Davis handled then-No. 10 Jesuit High, 3-1, to end Jesuit's season for the third year in a row. Nick Silva, Ian Carey and Fouzi El Mojahid found the back of the net in the win. Davis then wrapped up the Sac-Joaquin Sectional by dropping Beyer High, 2-1. Nate Boyden scored with his team trailing by a goal in extra time and then added the game-winner in overtime.
5. Brother Rice Academy (Birmingham, Mich.) - (23-1-1) *5
Brother Rice won a state title but didn't move up in the rankings. Actually, Brother Rice earned a share of the crown with a 2-2 tie against De La Salle High in the championship game. In the semifinals, Brother Rice narrowly pulled off a victory in a shootout against Okemos High. Matt Cleary, Tony Morelli and Brian Kolena beat the keeper as Rice won the shootout, 3-2.
6. John Jay HS (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) - (23-0-0) *7
The Patriots wrapped up a Class A regional title with an impressive 4-1 win against Union Endicott High. The victory earned John Jay a spot in the New York state semifinals.
7. Walt Whitman HS (Bethesda, Md.) - (15-0-2) *NR
Behind goals from Ramiro Peralta-Ramos and Ryan Mahoney, Whitman escaped the Class 4A semifinals with a 2-1 win over C.M. Wright High. Whitman will put its unbeaten season on the line when it faces Bowie High in the finals.
8. Clifton HS (Clifton, N.J.) - (18-1-2) *NR
Chris Karcz scored twice and assisted on another goal as Clifton ripped Emerson U.C. High, 4-1, in the state quarterfinals. Matt Ahumada and Neil Wilson also added goals. In terrible, rainy conditions, Clifton handled Montclair High, 2-1, in the state semifinals. Karcz found the back of the net two more times to pace Clifton.
9. Edwardsville HS (Edwardsville, Ill.) - (25-3-1) *8
A couple of impressive newcomers to the Top 10 pushed Edwardsville back one spot, but that can't take away from the team's first state soccer title in school history. Edwardsville must still be basking in the glow of last week's 4-1 championship game win against rival Lincoln-Way High.
10. North Olmsted HS (North Olmsted, Ohio) - (19-2-1) *9
Also resting on a state championship, North Olmsted slipped back one spot this week as well. North Olmsted won its state title with a 1-0 victory over favored St. Ignatius High more than a week ago.
Dropped Out:
No. 4 Leesville Road HS (Raleigh, N.C.) (22-2-1) - lost to Apex High, 1-0.
No. 10 Jesuit HS (Carmichael, Calif.) (21-3-2) - lost to No. 4 Davis High, 3-1.
