1. Horizon HS (Thornton, Colo.) - (20-0-0) *2
One thing in the Top 10 is for certain: Horizon will finish the fall as the national champion. The country's new No. 1 team will stay there as the rest of the nation battles through state tournaments. Horizon won the Colorado state title by ripping then-No. 9 Highlands Ranch High, 4-1, in the finals. As he did all season, Vince Kofa led Horizon with two goals. Grant Piernot added a goal and two assists, with Danny Einwiller netting the other score. It was Horizon's first state title since 1992. The team reached the finals by getting past Columbine High, 1-0, in the semifinals.

2. St. Benedicts HS (Newark, N.J.) - (19-0-2) *5
St. Benedicts also won a state title this week. Peddie High couldn't stay with the New Jersey powerhouse in the Prep A championship game. Gustavo Mora found the back of the net twice and Juan Gaviria scored the other goal in the 3-0 victory. St. Benedicts started the season as SchoolSports.com's No. 3 team and will finish at No. 2.
3. Sachem HS (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) - (18-0-1) *6
Sachem won the Suffolk County Class A title by edging Commack High, 2-1. Carlos Delgado and Peter Ramirez scored the goals for Sachem, which jumped three spots in the rankings.
4. Leesville Road HS (Raleigh, N.C.) - (21-1-1) *8
Leesville Road only found itself back in the Top 10 a couple of weeks ago, and it's now making some noise. The Pride hammered Haggard High, 7-0, with Grant Dickens scoring two goals and adding an assist. Leesville kept its momentum moving forward with a 4-0 state quarterfinal blanking of New Bern High. Matt Moore beat the keeper twice, with Andy Tabor and Ryan Deter also scoring.
5. Brother Rice Academy (Birmingham, Mich.) - (23-1-0) *10
The biggest move of the week came from Brother Rice, which jumped five spots. While half of the Top 10 stumbled through their respective state playoffs, Rice was taking care of business. The team won the Region 2 title with a 5-2 win over Livonia Churchill High. Rice will take on Warren De La Salle High for the Division I state title this Saturday (Nov. 11).
6. Davis HS (Davis, Calif.) - (25-1-1) - *NR
This newcomer to the rankings is finally getting some much-deserved recognition. Davis won its San Joaquin sectional playoff opener, 1-0, against Benicia High, with Neal Thayer netting the only goal. Davis then blanked Kennedy High, 3-0, to move into the sectional semifinals.
7. John Jay HS (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) - (22-0-0) *NR
John Jay earns a spot in the Top 10 after a 2-0 sectional final win over Arlington High. Sean Kelly and Matt Mayerhoffer scored the goals for the Patriots.
8. Edwardsville HS (Edwardsville, Ill.) - (25-3-1) *NR
Edwardsville made a name for itself early in the season by defeating highly regarded Lincoln-Way High on penalty kicks. This time, in the state finals, the penalty kicks weren't needed. Edwardsville, behind a three-goal effort from Luke Kreamalmeyer, handed then-No. 3 Lincoln-Way a 4-1 loss. This was Edwardsville's first state soccer title in school history. Edwardsville also defeated Waubonsie Valley High, 4-0, and Rockford Boylan High, 1-0, en route to the finals.
9. North Olmsted HS (North Olmsted, Ohio) - (19-2-1) *NR
Beating Strongsville High, 1-0, in the state playoffs may have been enough to get this team into the Top 10. But North Olmsted did one better. The team knocked off St. Ignatius High, the favorite to win the state title, 1-0 in the championship game. Mark Trapp sent North Olmsted into a frenzy when he found the back of the net with 56 seconds remaining in the contest. St. Ignatius beat North Olmsted handily, 5-0, earlier this season.
10. Jesuit HS (Carmichael, Calif.) - (21-2-2) *NR
Jesuit got past Casa Roble High, 2-0, and beat Bella Vista High this week to earn a spot in the rankings and a spot in the sectional semifinals against No. 6 Davis High.
