Vandy is Dandy for Koral By Kyle Melinn and Mark A. Woodworth SchoolSports.com | ||||||
It looks like the Southeastern Conference better make room for another prolific passer. Palisades High (Calif.) quarterback David Koral,
Koral and Vanderbilt seem like a perfect fit. The offense is centered around the passing attack at Palisades, just as it is at Vandy, so Koral won't have to adjust to a totally new offensive philosophy. Last season, Koral set a state record and led the nation with 4,907 passing yards and 57 touchdowns. Earlier this year, on Sept. 22, he broke the national single-game passing record with 764 yards against Van Nuys Grant High. So far this season, Koral has racked up 3,300 yards and 36 TDs.
Rush in no Hurry The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Rush attended the Penn State-Iowa game this past Saturday and watched the Nittany Lions lose, 30-27, in overtime. He has also taken an unofficial visit to Notre Dame.
Bruin Something at UCLA The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder also plays wide receiver and linebacker but was being recruited as a safety. Raymo, who has registered 82 tackles and two sacks this season, chose the Bruins over Ohio State and Arizona. Last week, UCLA received commitments from Mesa High (Ariz.) receiver Junior Taylor and Ventura High (Calif.) running back Tyler Ebell.
Football Recruiting Tidbits Piper High (Fla.) running back Quadtrine Hall has been offered scholarships by 20 schools, including Virginia Tech, Miami, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Notre Dame and Minnesota, according to Piper coach Doug Gatewood. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Hall has rushed for 1,250 yards this season. He also has a 4.3 GPA and a score of 29 on the ACT. ... Buford High (Ga.) senior football player P.K. Sam has committed to Florida State. Sam's best asset is his speed, which helped him win the Class A 110- and 300-meter hurdle state titles last spring.
Other Recruiting Tidbits "Having (Williams) and some other players on this team has elevated this program from being a good team to a totally new level," says Centennial athletic director Dennis Pratt, of his 6-foot-7, 230-pound standout. Williams, who broke a record at the USA Basketball Men's Youth Development Festival this summer by making 44 buckets in five days, was also considering Pepperdine, Tulsa and St. Louis. ... The list of Colorado girls' basketball players heading to college continues to grow. Lacey Shafer, a 6-foot-5 center from Mullen High, announced that she has verbally committed to Clemson. She averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game for Mullen's Class 4A state championship team last year. She turned down offers from Colorado State, San Diego State and James Madison. Other Colorado players heading out of state are Katy Flecky from Highlands Ranch High (Notre Dame), Whitney Law from Chatfield High (Georgia), Chelsea Domenico from Horizon High (Kansas State), Nichole Ruegsegger from Horizon High (Western New Mexico), Julie Gjersten from Arvada West High (Weber State) and Melissa Culver from Heritage High (Northwestern). ... Carondelet High (Calif.) senior Leigh Gregory has verbally committed to play basketball for Cal-Berkeley next year. Gregory averaged 14.7 points per game for last year's team, which sported a 29-3 record. She chose Cal over Wake Forest. ... Danielle Adetesco, a 6-foot-3 girls' basketball player from Santa Monica High (Calif.), has committed to the University of Arizona.
