National Girls' Soccer Top 10



1. Walt Whitman HS (South Huntington, N.Y.) - (13-0-0) *1
Commack High couldn't stay with Whitman as Brianne Pardini scored once and assisted on another in a 4-1 win. Melissa Shulman's three-goal performance helped Whitman pummel Newfield High, 9-1.

2. Immaculate Heart Academy (Washington Township, N.J.) - (13-0-0) *2
IHA posted four shutouts this week to keep the heat on Walt Whitman. Kristin Fischer had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win against Roxbury High. IHA also took care of River Dell High, 3-0, and dropped Westwood High, 6-0. Celeste Bondura scored twice and Simone Dekker tallied three assists in the Westwood contest. But the biggest win of the week came against Ridgewood High on Tuesday. IHA needed a Nicole Sausa goal in the second overtime to get past Ridgewood, 1-0.

3. Maria Carrillo HS (Santa Rosa, Calif.) - (15-0-0) *3
After trailing 1-0 to Ursuline, Maria Carrillo showed why it is the third-best team in the nation. Trinity Duncan beat the keeper twice and assisted on Arlene Tuttle's goal as Carrillo rallied for a 3-1 win. It was a little easier against Piner High. Both Kelli Smith and Duncan had a goal and an assist in the 4-0 blanking.

4. Trumbull HS (Trumbull, Conn.) - (13-0-0) *4
The wins keep coming for the girls from Connecticut. Trumbull handled Stamford High, 7-0, Staples High, 7-1, Danbury High, 4-0, and Naugatuck High, 4-0. For the season, Marie Strelka has 23 goals and seven assists, while Melanie Kasparek has scored 17 times and assisted on 13 others.

5. Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) - (14-0-1) *5
Jesuit proved who has the best team in Ohio this week. The squad nipped previously undefeated Mentor High, 3-2, with Kristen Weiss scoring twice in the second half. West Geauga High had only lost once this season - until it met up with Jesuit. Walsh shot 33 times and allowed just two shots in a 6-0 drubbing of West Geauga. Laura Rushnok recorded two goals and an assist and Katie Schwager also found the back of the net twice.

6. Woodbury HS (Woodbury, Minn.) - (18-0-1) *6
The section 3AA playoffs have started in Minnesota, and it's been all Woodbury so far. Woodbury beat Tartan High, 5-0, in the quarterfinals, with Christine Beatty and Rachel Gilfillian each scoring twice and tallying an assist. Park of Cottage Grove also received the shutout treatment from Woodbury, 3-0. Gilfillian, Carrie Czerniak and Bri Erickson all scored in the victory.

7. Cranford HS (Cranford, N.J.) - (12-0-0) *7
Three more wins, all by shutout, have the squad from Cranford holding strong at the No. 7 spot.

8. Jesuit HS (Portland, Ore.) - (10-0-0) *8
Jesuit ripped Glencoe High, 8-0, and Southridge High, 11-0, this week to stay undefeated and maintain its national ranking.

9. River Hill (Clarksville, Md.) - (12-0-0) *9
The Hawks posted consecutive 3-0 wins against Altholton High and Centennial High before handling Hammond High, 3-1. Rashida Walcott scored twice in the win against Hammond.

10. Ramapo HS (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) - (13-0-1) *10
Ramapo won four more times this week, including a revenge 1-0 victory against NV/Old Tappan High, the only team to blemish Ramapo's record this year. Katie Kleinert netted the only goal in the Old Tappan game, and she scored three times in a 7-0 blanking of Pascack Hills High. Lizzie Reed had two goals, as did Kleinert, as Ramapo stopped Fair Lawn High, 8-0. The other win this week came against River Dell High, 3-0.
