Parker no-go to UNC

Jason Parker of Fork Union Military Academy (Va.) won't be suiting up for the University of North Carolina men's basketball team this year. According to a report by Andy Katz of ESPN.com, Parker was denied admission to the school, which had recruited him for the past two years.

The West Charlotte High (N.C.) product, who at 6-foot-8, 265 pounds is one of the biggest freshman hoopsters in the country, is now looking to attend the University of Michigan, according to the ESPN.com story.

Since Parker received a qualifying score that was high enough to make him NCAA eligible, he won't have to sit out a year. Katz reports that the Wolverines have three scholarships still available.

Back at West Charlotte in 1998-99, Parker was recruited by colleges like UNC, Michigan and Kentucky, but wasn't academically eligible to play in college the following year. So, rather than sit out a year, he took his game to Fork Union, a military prep school.
