Cory Peck of Sioux City North High (Iowa) did the unthinkable Saturday. The senior hit six home runs in six consecutive at-bats. In his first game of the day, Peck drove in 12 runs on five homers to lead North to a 19-6 rout of Sioux Central High. Then, in his first at-bat against Western Christian later that same day, he connected for his sixth consecutive homer. Peck will be attending Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa, this fall.

Collinwood High's (Ohio) Christina Estrict, who already owns the state record in the high jump, added a state-meet record to her list of accomplishments Saturday. She cleared 6 feet to set the new meet mark, but could not better her personal-best state-record height of 6-1. Estrict made three attempts at 6-1 ¼, but missed on each jump.

Nick Schneider of Benilde-St. Margaret High (Minn.) is the fastest 3,200-meter runner in Minnesota high school track and field history. The junior turned in a blazing time of 9:01 Saturday at the Section 5AA meet.

Brooke Novak of Kaukauna High (Wis.) also owns a state record. At Saturday's Division I state meet in Madison, the junior ran the 1,600-meter race in 4:48.13. The time broke Suzy Favor's mark of 4:48.57, turned in in 1985 when she was running for Stevens Point High.

Not one but two national high school records were broken at Saturday's California Interscholastic Track and Field Championships at Cerritos College.

Morse High junior Monique Henderson sprinted to a time of 50.74 seconds in the 400-meter dash. The previous record, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations, was held by Granada Hills Kennedy High's (Calif.) Denean Howard, who put up a time of 52.39 in 1982.

Not to be outdone, Nichole Denby of North Riverside High set a national record in the 100-meter low hurdles. Her time of 13.2 seconds just nipped the record time of 13.23, set by Dominique Calloway of Denver South High (Colo.) in 1996.

The Cerritos High (Calif.) softball team wrapped up its second straight CIF Southern Section Division II title Saturday with a 4-1 win over Corona High. After trailing, 1-0, through one inning, Cerritos rallied to score four unanswered runs. Pitcher Jessica van der Linden worked out of a jam in the seventh inning to seal the victory and earn the win.

The South All-Stars crushed the North in the Arizona Class 5A All-Star Baseball Game at Grand Canyon University Friday. Led by MVP Mike Bartley, of Mesa Westwood High, who collected four hits and four RBI, the South won the game 17-3. Mesa High's Shawn Blinson and Mesa Mountain View High's Joe Goodman each picked up three hits.

It had been more than a year since the last time it happened. On Saturday, Fabious-Pompey High's (N.Y.) Bryan Porter finally gave up an earned run. His streak, which set a state record, had reached 56 innings until he allowed a sixth-inning, two-run homer against Oriskany High in his team's 7-2 win. Porter struck out 13 batters in the victory against Oriskany, which was the team the streak started against back on June 2, 1999.

Seekonk High's (Mass.) Jeff Chakouian unleashed a toss of 67-10 3/4 in the shot put at the All-State Meet in Norwell, Mass., Saturday to destroy the state record. The previous record was held by Weston High's Joe Naughton, who threw the shot 63-9 in 1969. Chakouian is the second seed in this year's Foot Locker National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, behind Oklahoma's Kevin Backout, who won the indoor national title. Chakouian placed second.

Tossing her fourth no-hitter of the season, Concord-Carlisle High's (Mass.) Michelle Daly helped her team beat Arlington Catholic High Thursday, 15-0. Daly struck out 15 and only allowed two walks in the contest.

One long-time coach is stepping down while another is coming back.

At Hialeah-Miami Lakes High (Fla.), P.J. Williams, 55, head coach of the girls' and boys' volleyball teams and softball team, will leave coaching with a total of 909 wins. In his 27 years in the business, he accumulated more than 20 district titles. And from 1980-1997, his volleyball teams never won less than 20 games.

Dan Dougherty, who retired three years ago after 30 years of coaching, is coming back to coach boys' basketball at Episcopal Academy (Pa.). He owns an overall record of 513-218. Dougherty spent time at St. Pius X, Malvern Prep and Penncrest before settling in at Episcopal, where he spent 21 years and owns a 380-150 mark.
