5. Lowndes County High (Valdosta, Ga.) - (30-2) *5
The Vikings were thrown a curveball last week when the Georgia High School Association sent Lowndes coach Danny Redshaw a letter stating the playoffs brackets had a 'typo.' 6. Barbe High (Lake Charles, La.) - (33-4) *6
Barbe beat defending Class 5A state champion West Monroe, 4-1, in regional play for its 23rd straight win. Chris Denton (12-0) set a school record for wins and now has 108 strikeouts. 14. Zephyrhills High (Zephyrhills, Fla.) - (30-2) *15
Led by the one-hitter of Brett Cimorelli, the Bulldogs blanked North Marion High, 7-0, in the regional playoffs. Brooks Boyette went 2-for-3, Mike Stepp added a two-run single and Danny Wardell hit a solo home run. Cimoreeli showed grit in the regional semifinals by playing with a broken cheekbone and still going 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 7-5 win. 16. Villa Park High (Villa Park, Calif.) - (22-2) *14
The Spartans managed just four hits in a 4-1 setback to Canyon High, but paid Canyon back later in the week with an 11-4 rout to clinch their second straight league title. Junior Quintana had four hits in the win.
