National Boys' Basketball Top 25



1. Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) - (18-0) *1
Last week: Game against Timothy Vincent Prep cancelled; beat Carolina Day School, 99-70; edged then-No. 3 St. Vincent-St. Mary High (Ohio), 79-78, in the National Hoops Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Gwyn Lake Prep; Jan. 20 at the Crestar Classic (Salem, Va.); Jan. 25-27 at the Mountain State Coal Classic (Beckley, W.Va.).
Outlook: Seven-footer DeSagana Diop scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked eight shots in the win over Carolina Day, while Kentucky-bound guard Rashaad Carruth poured in 20 points. Point guard Billy Edelin led the team with 29 points in the thrilling victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary, including a layup with 50 seconds remaining that broke a 77-77 tie.

2. Willowridge HS (Sugar Land, Texas) - (23-0) *2
Last week: Routed Fort Bend Austin High, 75-44; beat Kempner High, 75-65.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Dulles High; Jan. 25 vs. Elkins High; Jan. 27 vs. Clements High.
Outlook: Point guard T.J. Ford (Texas) posted a triple-double for the second consecutive week with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win over Kempner.

3. Camden HS (Camden, N.J.) - (9-0) *4
Last week: Beat Edgewood High, 85-64; defeated St. Augustine High, 68-53, in the Hometown Hoops Classic (Pa.).
Upcoming: Tuesday vs. Camden County Tech.
Outlook: Memphis-bound guard Dajuan Wagner pumped in more than 50 points for the fourth time in nine games when he scored 52 in the victory over Edgewood. Wagner added 38 points against St. Augustine and is averaging 41.7 ppg this season.

4. Ballard HS (Louisville, Ky.) - (19-0) *7
Last week: Beat Fairdale High, 73-63, in the Louisville Invitational Tournament; defeated Graves County High, 58-44, in the quarterfinals; cruised past Pleasure Ridge Park High, 82-67, in the semis; edged Bowling Green High, 68-66, to win the tourney.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Trinity High.
Outlook: Center Brandon Bender finished with 14 points, 10 boards and six blocks and Adam Chiles led the team with 24 points in the opening-round win over Fairdale. Bender added 23 points and 10 rebounds vs. Graves County, 13 points and a season-high 17 boards against PRP, and 13 points and nine rebounds in the title game.

5. Berkshire School (Homestead, Fla.) - (14-1) *5
Last week: Idle -- game against Central Park Christian High (Ala.) was postponed due to midterm exams.
Upcoming: Jan. 27 vs. Blue Ridge High (N.C.).
Outlook: Berkshire is led by DePaul-bound swingman Quemont Greer.

6. St. Vincent-St. Mary HS (Akron, Ohio) - (9-1) *3
Last week: Beat Massillon Washington High, 84-51; edged Sharon Kennedy Christian High (Pa.), 51-50; lost to No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Va.), 79-78, in the National Hoops Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Upcoming: Jan. 12 at Youngstown Rayen High; Jan. 26 vs. Stow Walsh Jesuit High.
Outlook: The nation's top sophomore, Lebron James, poured in 24 points and big man Aly Samabaly added 22 vs. Massillon. James added 20 in the win over Sharon Kennedy and scored a game-high 33 points in the loss to Oak Hill, which ended the team's 36-game winning streak.

7. Westchester HS (Los Angeles, Calif.) - (15-1) *8
Last week: Beat Fairfax High, 84-64; routed Los Angeles High, 111-69.
Upcoming: Jan. 18 at Pacific Palisades High.
Outlook: Brandon Heath led the team with 18 points and Hassan Adams added 16 in the win over Fairfax. The team's lone loss this season came to Bishop O'Connell High (N.C.) in the title game of a tournament.

8. St. Patrick's HS (Elizabeth, N.J.) - (7-2) *10
Last week: Beat Lawrenceville Prep, 80-77, in overtime; defeated St. Peter's Prep, 80-55. Upcoming: Jan. 18 vs. Bayonne Marist High.
Outlook: Guard Terrell Prince scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds vs. Lawrenceville, while Villanova-bound big man Marcus Austin finished with 18 points in his second game since returning from a month layoff with mononucleosis. Wichita State-bound forward Jamie Sowers tallied 14 points and nine boards in the win over St. Peter's Prep. Sophomore Grant Billmeier makes his season debut Thursday vs. Marist.

9. Mater Dei HS (Santa Ana, Calif.) - (18-2) *12
Last week: Routed Servite High, 94-45; beat Santa Margarita High, 71-51; defeated Canyon High, 104-79, in the Double Pump Hoop Challenge; pounded Mayfair High, 73-48, in the MLK Holiday Classic. Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. St. John Bosco High.
Outlook: Cedric Bozeman scored 18 points and Travis Gabler chipped in 14 in the win against Servite. Jamal Sampson managed 16 points and 10 boards in the win over Santa Margarita before being ejected late in the third quarter with two technical fouls. Bozeman added 18 points and 10 assists against Canyon and 18 points vs. Mayfair.

10. Southern HS (Baltimore, Md.) - (9-2) *13
Last week: Idle.
Upcoming: Tuesday vs. Dunbar High.
Outlook: Starting point guard Keyon Johnson was suspended indefinitely after being arrested on drug charges last week.

11. Midwest City HS (Midwest City, Okla.) - (8-2) *14
Last week: Beat Norman High, 56-54; pounded Del City High, 82-44; defeated Enid High, 92-59. Upcoming: Jan. 18 vs. Edmund North High in the Norman Tournament.
Outlook: Junior forward Shelden Williams finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and hit a pair of free throws with three seconds left to win the game vs. Norman. DeAngelo Alexander led the team with 17 points against Del City.

12. White Station HS (Memphis, Tenn.) - (17-1) *15
Last week: Beat Collierville High, 75-60; defeated Hillcrest High (Ill.), 57-43; beat Mt. Zion Academy (N.C.), 65-54; edged St. Raymond's High (N.Y.), 56-52, in the finals of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions (Mo.).
Upcoming: Tuesday vs. Houston High.
Outlook: Ernest Shelton finished with 27 points in the victory over Collierville, added 22 vs. Hillcrest and scored 19 against Mt. Zion. He finished off the Bass Pro Tournament with 27 points in the championship game to win tourney MVP honors.

13. Vashon HS (St. Louis, Mo.) - (13-1) *16
Last week: Beat Kansas City Central High, 67-37; defeated East St. Louis High, 69-57.
Upcoming: Jan. 18 vs. N.J. ROTC.
Outlook: Junior Jimmy McKinley scored 18 points and dished out seven assists while center Lorenzo Gordon added 19 points and 11 boards in the win over Central. McKinney finished with a team-high 27 points vs. East St. Louis.

14. Pike HS (Indianapolis, Ind.) - (12-1) *6
Last week: Beat Lawrence Central High, 93-47, in the quarterfinals of the Marion County Tournament; lost to Lawrence North High, 79-75, in the semifinals.
Upcoming: Jan. 20 at Decatur Central High; Jan. 26 vs. Southport High; Jan. 27 vs. Bloomington South High.
Outlook: Notre Dame-bound guard Chris Thomas was held in check with 14 points and seven assists in the win over Lawrence Central, but reserve guard Tony Weedan erupted for 18 points. Thomas poured in 34 points in the loss to Lawrence North.

15. Reynolds HS (Winston Salem, N.C.) - (14-2) *17
Last week: Pounded Davie County High, 103-70; beat Mount Tabor High, 68-48.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. West Forsyth High; Jan. 24 vs. West Charlotte High.
Outlook: Guard Mitchell Baldwin scored a game-high 27 points and Derrele Mitchell added 14 against Davie County. Baldwin led the team again with 16 vs. Mount Tabor, while Mitchell chipped in 13.

16. Montrose Christian School (Rockville, Md.) - (10-2) *18
Last week: Beat The Heights High, 92-70.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Wilson High; Jan. 26 vs. National Christian Academy.
Outlook: Junior forward Ryan Lambert poured in 20 points in the win over The Heights.

17. Thornwood HS (South Holland, Ill.) - (13-1) *19
Last week: Beat Bloom High, 58-47.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 at Homewood-Flossmoor High; Jan. 20 vs. Rockford Guilford High in the fourth annual High School Hoops Showdown (Rockford, Ill.); Jan. 26 vs. Thornton High.
Outlook: Center Eddy Curry finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in the win over Bloom.

18. Germantown Academy (Fort Washington, Pa.) - (16-2) *21
Last week: Routed Chestnut Hill High, 67-20; beat The Hill School, 65-33; defeated Bodine High, 75-43; edged Malvern Prep, 60-56, in double overtime.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 at Haverford High; Jan. 27 vs. Hun School.
Outlook: Matt Walsh led the team with 16 points in the win over The Hill School, while junior center Ted Skuchas tallied seven points, nine boards and seven blocks vs. Chestnut Hill.

19. Seattle Prep (Seattle, Wash.) - (13-0) *22
Last week: Defeated O'Dea High, 58-41; beat West Seattle High, 74-43.
Upcoming: Tuesday vs. Blanchett High.
Outlook: Cal-bound Erik Bond registered 24 points, six rebounds and five blocks in the win over O'Dea. Jeffrey Day led the team with 13 points vs. West Seattle.

20. Male HS (Louisville, Ky.) - (17-2) *9
Last week: Defeated Eastern High, 80-60, in the first round of the Louisville Invitational Tournament; beat South Laurel High, 60-42, in the quarterfinals; lost to Bowling Green High, 78-64, in the semifinals.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. St. Xavier; Jan. 23 vs. Southern High; Jan. 30 at Seneca High.
Outlook: Forward Larry O'Bannon scored 22 points and hauled down seven boards against Eastern and scored a game-high 29 vs. South Laurel. Sophomore forward Michael Bush added 21 points and nine rebounds against Eastern. Both O'Bannon and Bush scored 19 in the loss to Bowling Green.

21. Clovis West HS (Fresno, Calif.) - (16-2) *NR
Last week: Defeated Buchanan High, 79-52; beat Dominguez High, 65-61, in the MLK Holiday Classic. Outlook: Jason Walberg led Clovis West with 23 points against Buchanan and 18 vs. then-No. 11 Dominguez.

22. Dominguez HS (Compton, Calif.) - (13-3) *11
Last week: Beat Warren High, 60-55; defeated Gahr High, 55-45; pounded Paramount High, 65-30; lost to Clovis West High, 65-61, in the MLK Holiday Classic.
Upcoming: Jan. 17 vs. Downey High.
Outlook: Tyson Chandler posted a triple-double with 17 points, 15 boards and 11 blocks in the loss to Clovis West.

23. Champagnat Catholic HS (Hialeah, Fla.) - (18-1) *25
Last week: Beat Arlington Country Day, 62-41, in the MLK Shootout.
Upcoming: Jan. 17 at Ace Academy; Jan. 19 at Florida Christian; Jan. 22 at Bay Point High.

24. Oxon Hill HS (Oxon Hill, Md.) - (11-0) *NR
Last week: Defeated Bowie High, 83-59; beat Newport School, 91-68.
Outlook: Lamar Butler scored 24 and Phil Goss added 21 in the win over the Newport School.

25. Milwaukee Washington HS (Milwaukee, Wis.) - (8-1) *23
Last week: Lost to Milwaukee Tech, 64-60; beat Milwaukee Juneau High, 70-60.
Upcoming: Jan. 23 at Milwaukee North High; Jan. 26 at Milwaukee Riverside High.
Outlook: Senior point guard Keyon Williams scored 19 points in a losing effort against Milwaukee Tech.

Christian Brothers HS (Lincroft, N.J.) - (10-0)
Last week: The team won a pair of games to move into consideration for the rankings. Upcoming: Tuesday vs. Neptune High.
Outlook: The team is led by the backcourt of Pat Cremen and Chris Kenny.

Coatesville HS (Coatesville, Pa.) - (14-1)
Last week: Beat Downingtown High, 83-61; pounded Plymouth-Whitemarsh High, 85-45; defeated Chester High, 67-58.
Upcoming: Tuesday vs. West Chester East High.
Outlook: John Allen scored 25 against Downingtown, 32 vs. Plymouth-Whitemarsh and 24 against Chester.

No. 20 St. Edward HS (Lakewood, Ohio) - (7-2)
Last week: Lost to St. Ignatius High, 90-79.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Shaker Heights High; Jan. 20 at Canton McKinley High.
Outlook: UNC-bound forward Jawad Williams scored 24 points in a losing effort against St. Ignatius.

No. 24 DeMatha Catholic HS (Hyattsville, Md.) - (12-4)
Last week: Beat Bishop Ireton High, 77-55; lost to Gonzaga High, 52-45.
Upcoming: Jan. 19 vs. Carroll High; Jan. 23 vs. St. Raymond's High at the DeMatha Invitational.
Outlook: Big men Jordan Collins and Travis Garrison were ineffective in the loss to Gonzaga. The team was led by junior guards Chris Stephenson and Corey McRae, who each finished with 11 points.
