STOCK WATCH: Fast-Glance Week in Review
October 16, 2006 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down.
STOCK UP
• The Tigers are going to the World Series. Detroit had 12 straight losing seasons before this year's breakthrough. After losing the opener to the Yankees in the ALDS, the Tigers have won seven straight playoff games. Jim Leyland has done a magnificent job in Detroit. Give credit to Dave Dombrowski for getting Leyland.
Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith teamed up to post big numbers as Carolina beat Baltimore.
• The Titans, Bucs and Lions finally won! The Steelers were impressive too.
• Tiki Barber ran for 185 yards as the Giants won in Atlanta.
• West Virginia quarterback Pat White ran for 247 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Syracuse.
• Vanderbilt stunned Georgia in Athens. Indiana upset Iowa.
• Rutgers had an impressive road win at Navy.
STOCK DOWN
• Miami and Florida International football players had a brawl and the video showed players kicking, one player hitting another with a helmet. I think some of those kids should lose their scholarships.
• Terrell Owens went at it with the Cowboys receiving coach. Dallas punished the coach and Owens got the last laugh with three touchdowns against Houston.
• Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter was suspended four games for conduct detrimental to the team.
• The Redskins lost at home to the Titans.
• A youth baseball coach was sentenced to jail for offering an eight-year old money to bean his autistic teammate.
