STOCK WATCH: Fast-Glance Week in Review
July 31, 2006 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down.
STOCK UP
•The Yankees made a terrific move acquiring Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle from the Phillies to address major needs. Brian Cashman did a great job, trading four minor leaguers without giving up highly-regarded prospect Phillip Hughes.
•Chase Utley of the Phillies extended his hitting streak to 31 games.
•Greg Maddux moved into 12th place on the all-time win list with 327. Will he be traded?
•Carlos Zambrano won his ninth straight decision.
•Carlos Beltran hit his third grand slam of July. He now has 32 home runs.
•Reggie Bush and Vince Young agreed to lucrative rookie deals.
STOCK DOWN
•Floyd Landis and Justin Gatlin accused of failing tests for testosterone. We will have to wait and see what happens.
•The Giants have lost seven straight games, including a sweep by the Pirates. Five of those seven losses were one-run defeats.
•The Braves have lost four in a row, allowing 33 runs in those games. That included a three-game sweep in Atlanta by the Mets.
•The Cardinals suffered a four-game sweep against the Cubs.
•Defending champion Ben Crane was disqualified for signing an illegal scorecard in Milwaukee.
