Tar Heels heating up

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Feb. 28, 2006 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down.

STOCK UP

Julia Mancuso won the gold medal in the giant slalom skiing race at the Olympics. Apolo Anton Ohno got another speed skating gold.

North Carolina's men's hoop team was impressive in beating NC State by 24 and Maryland by 24. What an incredible job done by Roy Williams after the Tar Heels lost their top seven scorers.

Arkansas has been on a roll, beating Florida, Alabama and Tennessee to move closer to an NCAA tournament berth.

Three Rivers Community College basketball coach Gene Bess got his 1000th career coaching victory.

Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto got the U. S. its first medal in ice dancing in 30 years, gaining a silver medal.

Shane Mosley beat Fernando Vargas in a junior middleweight bout. That kept Mosley in the spotlight.

STOCK DOWN

Bode Miller came into the Olympics with great expectations, but the skier left Italy without a single medal.

USA and Canada were major disappointments in Olympic hockey. Neither squad made the medal round. The Canadians were shut out in three of their last four games.

Kevin Garnett was ejected Sunday for throwing a ball in the stands and accidentally hitting a fan.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have dropped three straight games despite LeBron James playing.
