STOCK UP: Weis wins Notre Dame debut
Charlie Weis -- Weis, the former Patriots offensive coordinator, had a successful debut as Notre Dame's head coach. The Irish beat Pittsburgh 42-21.

Steve Spurrier -- Spurrier won in his return to college coaching, as South Carolina beat Central Florida on Thursday.

James Blake -- Blake has been on fire at the U. S. Open; he beat No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal.

Chris Carpenter -- Carpenter became a 20-game winner and Dontrelle Willis won his 19th game.

Brian Calhoun -- Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun, a transfer from Colorado, ran for 258 yards and scored five touchdowns in a win over Bowling Green.

U.S. soccer -- The U.S. men's soccer team clinched a berth in the World Cup by beating Mexico 2-0 Saturday. Congratulations to coach Bruce Arena's team.

STOCK DOWN: Oklahoma upset by TCU
Oklahoma -- OU was stunned by TCU 17-10. Coach Bob Stoops' team never got it together offensively as Adrian Peterson was held in check.

Andy Roddick -- Roddick was upset in the first round of the U.S. Open.

Sidney Ponson -- The Orioles' pitcher was released after more off-the-field problems. He has to try to get his life back in order.

Freddie Mitchell -- The wide receiver was released by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Oklahoma State -- The Cowboys barely survived a scare at home against I-AA Montana State, winning 15-10.
