April 26, 2005 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down ...
STOCK UP: Rockets take 2-0 lead over Mavs
Houston Rockets — The Rockets are heading home up 2-0 in their series versus the Mavericks. Yao Ming was fabulous in Game 2, scoring 33 points (13-of-14 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line).
Ben Gordon — The Chicago Bulls' rookie guard scored 30 points in his first playoff game to help the Bulls beat the Wizards.
Alex Smith — Utah quarterback Alex Smith went No. 1 in the NFL draft to the San Francisco 49ers.
Chicago White Sox — The White Sox are off to an incredible 16-4 start under manager Ozzie Guillen.
Jamie Moyer — The Seattle Mariners' pitcher, who is ESPN analyst Digger Phelps' son-in-law, is off to a 4-0 start with a 2.53 ERA.
Jon Lieber — The Philadelphia Phillies' pitcher is also 4-0. Do you think the Yankees are sorry he didn't re-sign with them?
STOCK DOWN: Mavs, Spurs stumble at home
Dallas Mavericks — The Mavs trail the Rockets 2-0 after losing at home in Games 1 and 2.
San Antonio Spurs — The Spurs lost at home to the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of their playoff series. Tim Duncan didn't make a basket in the fourth quarter.
North Carolina basketball — With all of North Carolina's early NBA defections Rashad McCants, Sean May, Raymond Felton and Marvin Williams David Noel will be lonely as the only returning player of note for the national champion Tar Heels.
Kansas City Royals — The Royals have lost five straight games and are 5-14. It's going to be a long season for manager Tony Pena.
Toronto Blue Jays — The Blue Jays have also dropped five in a row.
