Stock up for Yankees

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

May 3, 2004 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

New York Yankees -- The Yankees are back on track, first sweeping the trio of Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito, and then they swept the Kansas City Royals. That's six straight wins for the Bronx Bombers. Hey, Red Sox, are you paying attention?

Frank Catalanotto -- The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder went six-for-six against the White Sox on Saturday night.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- The Wolves finally moved past the first round of the playoffs with a 4-1 series victory over the Denver Nuggets. Next up are the Sacramento Kings, though I think ultimately the Kings will triumph.

Smarty Jones -- The Pennsylvania-bred mudder won the 130th Kentucky Derby and enabled jockey Stewart Elliott to become the first jockey to win in his first Kentucky Derby since Ronnie Franklin won on Spectacular Bid 25 years ago.

Roger Clemens -- Now with the Houston Astros, the Rocket went 5-0 in April for the first time in his career.

Tampa Bay Lightning -- The Lightning swept the Montreal Canadiens and are now in hockey's version of the Final Four, baby! I need some tickets because I've never gone to a Lightning game.

Florida Marlins -- The Marlins set a dubious record by intentionally walking Barry Bonds four times in a nine-inning game Saturday. That isn't good for the sport of baseball. People pay to see Bonds swing the bat.

Pedro Martinez -- He ripped Red Sox management and said he won't negotiate with the team over his contract any further, indicating he'll become a free agent after this season. Then he went out and gave up six earned runs to the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.

Dallas Mavericks -- The Sacramento Kings knocked the Mavs out of the playoffs in the first round. What a disappointment for owner Mark Cuban and company.

Jeff Leifer -- The Triple-A Indianapolis Indians' (a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate) first baseman was locked in a bathroom and his minor league game was delayed for 20 minutes last Thursday.

Atlanta Braves -- The Braves made seven errors in a 13-4 loss to Colorado on Sunday.
