Patriots are Super again

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Feb. 2, 2004 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

New England Patriots -- The Patriots won the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. Here's a salute to coach Bill Belichick, QB Tom Brady, kicker Adam Vinatieri and Co. for a super performance. It was a fabulous game.

Carolina Panthers -- Even in defeat, the Panthers fought, scratched and clawed till the very end. Coach John Fox did a great job all season long.

Air Force basketball -- The Falcons, picked last in the conference before the season, are 15-2 (including 5-0 in the Mountain West). Coach Joe Scott, a former Princeton assistant, has done a remarkable job.

John Elway, Barry Sanders, Carl Eller, Bob Brown -- Congrats to this foursome on making the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Roger Federer, Justine Henin-Hardenne -- Federer and Henin-Hardenne are this year's Australian Open singles champions. Henin-Hardenne has now won three of the past four Grand Slams.

New Jersey Nets -- The Nets fired Byron Scott after he had led them to two straight Eastern Conference titles. Interim coach Lawrence Frank has done well so far for the Nets, but how do you fire a guy who got to the NBA Finals two straight years?

Chicago Bulls -- The Bulls are 2-12 in their past 14 games ... that's nothing new in Chicago lately.

Utah Jazz -- The Jazz did a skit making fun of Karl Malone, and it cost the team a $15,000 fine from the NBA! After all he gave to that club, every ounce of energy, it's ridiculous that the Jazz did that to him.

New York Rangers -- The Rangers have scored just one goal in four of their five games since acquiring Jaromir Jagr. It looks like a seventh straight year out of the playoffs for the Rangers.
