Price is right on for Sooners

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Feb. 12
When you talk about clutch players in college basketball, several names come to mind.

My pick as Mr. Clutch is Oklahoma's Hollis Price. Yes, he left the court in Austin on Monday night just short of the winner's circle, but that doesn't matter.

Price has a heart of gold, plays with a passion and is one of the nation's premier free throw shooters. Kelvin Sampson's perimeter player has been sensational since arriving from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans.

Wouldn't it be special if Price got back to New Orleans for the Final Four? He and his teammate Quannas White are from the area, and they make up a special duo.

How badly do they want to be at the Final Four there? Let me tell you, despite the loss to the Longhorns Monday night, this team has the potential to advance.

This team knows how to defend and it gets the maximum out of Price. He is one of those special players that you want to have the rock in his hands when the game is on the line.

Just ask Bob Knight about Price's off-balance, 15-footer against Texas Tech that sent that contest into overtime. Just when it looked like the Red Raiders were going to snap the Sooners' long home win streak, Price was right on.

Somehow, someway he finds ways to win. Price made a big trifecta in overtime to help get Oklahoma the W. Think back to last year in Austin when he hit the game-winner in OT. Time after time, he has come through.

Price is also dangerous on the foul line. He is automatic.

If I was coaching, and I wanted someone to take charge, it would be Price. He is amazing down the stretch, distributing the rock, shooting in the clutch and making free throws.
