Edelin's suspension almost criminal in nature

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Nov. 15
NEW YORK -- What is going on with the NCAA and its investigations of players in various situations? Are you serious? Tell me I didn't hear this correctly -- Syracuse's Billy Edelin was given a 12-game suspension for playing in a 4-on-4 recreational league with players 40-and-older while he wasn't even attending school.

What advantage is Edelin getting over people wearing collegiate uniforms? We should start thinking of helping kids instead of hurting kids. Get real and get after those who put cash in front of kids, buy them clothes and jewelry, and do things that are simply in violation of everything that is right.

Let's get our priorities in order. Penalizing Edelin for 12 games bothers me so much that I talked about it after Thursday night's game as being totally unfair. A foreign player can get 50-games experience against big-time competition, yet he would get no more than an eight-game suspension from the NCAA. Where is the fairness in that?

Will Johnson of North Carolina was given a suspension for participating in a 3-on-3 charity game to raise money for cancer patients. What are we doing? This is absurd. We do things that end up hindering people from getting better, hurting them and taking away opportunity.

Edelin should be in uniform and shouldn't have to sit 12 games. I hope Syracuse battles to rectify this. It's almost criminal in nature.
