Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: Andrew Walter, Schottenheimer, McAllister
Marty-ball just keeps on rolling, baby! Head coach Marty Schottenheimer and the Chargers moved to 6-1 with an overtime win at Oakland. LaDainian Tomlinson carried the ball 39 times for 153 yards, including the game-winning score on a 19-yard TD run in OT. Do you think Redskins owner Daniel Snyder would like to have Marty coaching the Redskins now?
Arizona State QB Andrew Walter set a Pac-10 record as he led the Sun Devils to a 45-42 upset of Oregon in Eugene. Walter completed 31-of-53 passes for 536 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first loss of the season for the Ducks.
Saints RB Deuce McAllister ran wild to lead New Orleans past the Niners. Who needs Ricky Williams in New Orleans? The Saints are 6-1 now, including wins over Tampa Bay, Green Bay and San Francisco.
USA Today's Ian O'Connor wrote a great story on Giants pitcher Jason Schmidt recently. Schmidt's mother has cancer, and she was in attendance as the pitcher threw a gem in Game 1 of the World Series.
I don't know much about red lines, green lines or blue lines, but the Tampa Bay Lightning opened 3-0-1 for the best start in franchise history.
STOCK DOWN: Nebraska, Michigan State, Redskins, Vikings
Nebraska and Michigan State football: The Cornhuskers lost to Oklahoma State for the first time since 1961 -- you know the heat has to be on coach Frank Solich. The same can be said for coach Bobby Williams as the Spartans lost at home to surprising Minnesota, 28-7. Give coach Glen Mason's Golden Gophers some credit, but Michigan State has been a big-time disappointment.
The Redskins have struggled lately, including Sunday's blowout loss to Green Bay. QB Brett Favre was knocked out of the game, yet the Redskins couldn't get the job done.
QB Daunte Culpepper and the Vikings have been in Struggle City. They lost badly on Sunday to the Jets, a team that has had its own share of problems. It's been a tough season for coach Mike Tice and company.
