Sept. 16
Dick's Stock Watch identifies whose stock is up and whose is down over the past week across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: Notre Dame, Cal, Montgomery
Notre Dame football -- New Irish coach Tyrone Willingham and I have a lot in common: He was the fourth choice of Notre Dame AD Kevin White, and I was the fourth choice of my wife (and my marriage has worked out great for 32 years)! The Irish are 3-0 and dreaming about the BCS.
Cal football -- Cal blew away Michigan State, which will be an angry team this Saturday when Notre Dame visits East Lansing. Last year, I saw the Cal football team in New York before they beat Rutgers for their only win. Now the Golden Bears are 3-0.
American sprinter Tim Montgomery -- Montgomery set a new world record in the 100 meters (9.78 seconds at the IAAF Grand Prix Final on Saturday). Are you kidding me? When I run the 100, they clock me with the calendar, baby!
STOCK DOWN: Nebraska, Ravens, Manning, M's
Nebraska football -- The Cornhuskers were embarrassed by Penn State 40-7. What's happened to the once-proud 'Huskers?
Baltimore Ravens -- The 0-2 Ravens were humiliated by the Bucs 25-0 on Sunday. Where's the defense that carried Brian Billick to the Super Bowl? And where's the offense ... any offense, baby!
Peyton Manning -- I love the Colts' QB, but he threw three picks in a home loss to Miami.
Seattle Mariners -- Who would have thought they would miss the postseason? But you can stick a fork in them -- they're done.
