Expect another Elite Eight for Duke

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Duke had its survive-and-advance game in the second round against Notre Dame. It seems like every year, the eventual national champion has one of those. In the scare against the Irish, Ryan Humphrey presented problems for Duke in the low box, dominating the lane. Harold Swanagan also played well.

When the Blue Devils face a team with two dominant players inside, they have a problem. But Indiana's strength is on the perimeter.

When the Blue Devils face a team with two dominant players inside, they have a problem. Indiana's strength is on the perimeter, which plays into the hands of Duke. Nobody is better defending on the perimeter than Chris Duhon, Mike Dunleavy and Jason Williams.

For Indiana to have a chance, Jarrad Odle and Dane Fife must step up. So far in the Tournament, they have combined to average 11 ppg.

Coach Mike Davis will need Jeffrey Newton to play aggressively and challenge Duke center Carlos Boozer. Indiana's Jared Jeffries is multi-talented and one of the top sophs in America, along with UConn's Caron Butler. Jeffries appears to be back on track after ankle problems.

Duke's Williams, a unanimous All-American and winner of the Naismith Award, has struggled shooting so far in the Big Dance (less than 42 percent from the field). One of the pleasant surprises for the Blue Devils has been the tourney play of diaper dandy Daniel Ewing, who scored 18 points, including four trifectas, against the Irish.

Isn't it amazing that coach Mike Krzyzewski has led the Dukies to the Elite Eight 10 times in the last 17 NCAA Tournaments? He should make it 11 of 18. Duke, behind Jason Williams and Co., will march on.
