Each week I post my Dick's Stock Watch report on whose stock is up and whose is down across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: Brady, Stewart, Duke, Arizona
Tom Brady of the New England Patriots has had a Cinderella season, and it continued big-time on Saturday night. The former Michigan quarterback threw for 312 yards and 32 completions as he rallied New England from a 10-point deficit to beat the Raiders in overtime.
Coach K and his Dukies did a phenomenal job in a 36-hour span, knocking off a pair of ranked teams, Maryland and Wake Forest. The Blue Devils averaged 101.5 ppg. in those two Ws.
Arizona had a pair of big wins as Lute Olson's team knocked off USC and UCLA. The Wildcats came back from 20 points down against the Bruins. Luke Walton had a solid week, recording a triple-double against USC (27 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and following up with 18 points, seven rebound and seven assists against Steve Lavin's club.
Over the last year or two, many people thought the Steelers would not win with Kordell Stewart at quarterback. They should think again as Stewart and his team is going to the AFC Championship game against the Patriots. Stewart has shown the commitment to winning this season.
STOCK DOWN: Bucs, Rangers, Iowa basketball
The Tampa Bay Bucs. Shame on you to the Glazers. Supposedly Bill Parcells was going to be the next coach of the Bucs, so the team let a classy Tony Dungy go. They could have had Steve Spurrier, but he ended up in Washington. Now Tampa Bay is still shopping.
I don't know that much about hockey, the red lines, the blue lines and all... but I know about getting the Ws and the New York Rangers and Eric Lindros haven't been getting them lately. The Rangers haven't won a game in January yet.
Then there is Iowa basketball. It is hard to figure Steve Alford's team. Sure, it is one thing to lose to Indiana and Illinois, but a loss to Northwestern was shock city. I know Mike Greenberg of Golic and Greenberg on ESPN Radio had to be happy that his alma mater Wildcats knocked off the Hawkeyes!
