Stock soaring for Jordan, Wiz

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Dec. 17
Each week I post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.

Hey, where are all of those Michael Jordan bashers now? The Washington Wizards have won six in a row, and right now, the team is tied for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Jordan's presence has made this team better and Richard Hamilton is developing into a PTPer. The Wizards have won six in a row.

Santa Claus has arrived in the Bronx again -- George Steinbrenner has spent some big-time cash, baby! Coming into the House that Ruth built are Jason Giambi, Robin Ventura, Steve Karsay, John Vander Wal ... the beat goes on for the New York Yankees. This is a team that always goes for the gold ring.

Let's also salute the the Big Apple's other baseball team, the New York Mets. Steve Phillips has made a number of offseason deals; the big one brought second baseman Roberto Alomar to New York. On Sunday, Phillips picked up standout pitcher Shawn Estes from the Giants.

The Detroit Lions finally broke into the W column, beating the Vikings in a thriller. Let's hear it for Marty Mornhinweg and company!

Tim Duncan has had a super season so far, and the San Antonio Spurs have won seven in a row. San Antonio is breathing down the Lakers' backs in the Western Conference.

It has been a tough season for coach Rudy Tomjanovich. The Houston Rockets have now lost 13 in a row. Houston has really struggled since Steve Francis was lost with an injury.

The whole George O'Leary situation at Notre Dame is tough. The inaccuracy about having three varsity letters at New Hampshire isn't what did him in, it was the alleged master's degree at NYU. Notre Dame will regroup and find an outstanding football coach.

Shame on all the Cleveland Browns fans who threw beer bottles at the end of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. There is no excuse for throwing things on the field -- it was a disgraceful display .

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been stuck in mediocrity this season, as shown by Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Bears. Chicago is not a great offensive team, but where has the Bucs' defense been this season? Tampa Bay had virtually no offense against the playoff-bound Bears.
