Tidbits: Badgers bounce back after slow start

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan

How about a salute to Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan! In his first season as head coach of the Badgers, Ryan led his team to a Shock City win over Indiana in Bloomington on Wednesday night.

It was Wisconsin's first win at Indiana since 1977. The Badgers enter this weekend 8-5 in the Big Ten and 15-11 overall, back in the NCAA hunt. Ryan's team is on a three-game Big Ten win streak.

Wisconsin has been impressive after a slow 1-4 start. Think about some of the close calls lost by the Badgers: at UNLV by five, vs. Weber State by four, vs. Hawaii by three, at Georgia Tech by one, vs. Temple by three in double overtime, at Xavier by nine, at Penn State by two and at Northwestern by nine.

The Badgers have a key game at Minnesota this weekend.

Keep an eye on Texas-Pan American senior guard Mire Chatman of Garland, Texas. Chatman has scored 90 points in his last two games.

Chatman scored 46 points in a 110-105 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday night; he added 44 in a 100-86 win against New Mexico State in his next outing. Chatman is averaging 25 points per game and is fourth in the nation in steals (3.5 per game).

If Duke were able to run the table and win the national championship, the Blue Devils would finish with just one loss and thus would surpass a unique group.

Since Indiana won the national title and finished unbeaten in 1976, no team has cut down the nets without losing at least two games. Here's a list of the schools that have had just two losses in their national-championship seasons (since '76):

CONNECTICUT '99 | 34-2
KENTUCKY '96 | 34-2
UCLA '95 | 31-2
DUKE '92 | 34-2
NORTH CAROLINA '82 | 32-2
KENTUCKY '78 | 30-2

Stanford guard Casey Jacobsen has been super, scintillating and sensational on Thursday nights lately.

Two weeks ago, he had 49 points in a 90-81 win over Arizona State. Last week, he had 41 in a 90-87 win over Oregon. What will he do Thursday night at Washington?
