Williamson, Rupp top unsung heroes

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Ron Williamson, Howard University -- The 6-1 senior guard set a school record by scoring 52 points to lead Howard to a 107-70 win over North Carolina A&T. Williamson was simply brilliant, hitting 16-of-22 from the field, including 11-of-14 from 3-point range. Think about it ... 11 trifectas on 14 tries! That's awesome, baby with a capital A!

Luis Flores, Manhattan -- The Jaspers have put up solid numbers this season, including a big victory over NYC rival St. John's at Madison Square Garden. One reason Bobby Gonzalez's team is among the best in the MAAC is the play of Flores. In a game for first place in the conference, Flores scored 44 points in a win over Fairfield last week.

B. J. Banks, Stephen F. Austin -- The 6-2 guard shot just under 65 percent from the field in a pair of victories. His squad is a perfect 9-0 in the Southland Conference and 13-3 overall.

Kerry Rupp, Utah -- He filled in for Rick Majerus, who was attending the funeral of former player Andre Miller's stepfather. Rupp led the Utes to a win at BYU, snapping the Cougars' 44-game home win streak (the longest in the nation at the time).

Kyle Macy, Morehead State -- His Eagles have a nine-game win streak and a perfect 8-0 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. Kentucky Wildcats fans have to be happy about their former star guard!

Steve Merfeld, Evansville -- His Purple Aces shut down Kyle Korver and Creighton in a major surprise.

Mike Dement, SMU -- The Mustangs scored a pair of road upsets, beating Rice and Tulsa last week.
