BEST of the WEEK | March 13, 2005
Awards based on games from Monday through Sunday
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: J.J. Redick, Duke
J.J. Redick put on a stellar performance at the ACC tournament. The tournament MVP had 35 points against NC State in the semifinals and 26 in the championship game victory over Georgia Tech.
COACH OF THE WEEK: Bruce Weber, Illinois
Weber's team responded following its first loss of the season to Ohio State by winning the Big Ten tournament. Weber had to deal with his own adversity with the passing of his mother. My sympathies go out to Coach Weber and his family.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Washington
The Huskies won their first Pac-10 tournament title and secured a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed in the process. Congrats to coach Lorenzo Romar on a super season so far.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK:
South Florida over Cincinnati
The Bulls were the 11th seed in the Conference USA tournament and beat the Bearcats easily.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Leon Williams, Ohio
The 6-foot-8 freshman from Baltimore had the game-winning tip-in to send the Bobcats into the NCAA Tournament. Williams had 29 points and 15 rebounds.
Dick Vitale coached the Pistons and the University of Detroit before broadcasting ESPN's first college basketball game in December 1979. Send him a question for possible use on ESPNEWS.
