Self in the Final Four

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Bill Self got a gorilla off his back. In his fifth regional final, he finally got to the winner's circle to reach the Final Four.

Kansas had its hands full with Stephen Curry in the regional final. The Jayhawks rotated different bodies on him, tried a box-and-one, all kinds of defenses. Rotating Sherron Collins to stop Curry at the end against Davidson was big.

This Jayhawk team has enjoyed an impressive season. The Big 12 is a tough league. Sharing the regular-season title and winning the postseason tournament is not easy.

I have said all along that Kansas has the deepest perimeter group in college basketball. Putting Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson and Collins on the court gives Self versatility.

I was really impressed with the interior play against Davidson. Sasha Kaun really stepped up his game. Darrell Arthur and Darnell Jackson were vital as well. Can these guys perform at a high level against a North Carolina team that will be physical in the paint?

One key for Kansas will be slowing down North Carolina's fast break attack. The Jayhawks have athletes capable of competing in this game.

For now, Self is happy to be making his first trip to the Final Four.
