Memphis makes Final Four

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Memphis was so dominant in the regional semifinals and finals. That was an impressive as it gets.

John Calipari has to feel like a million bucks as his team played so well in big wins over Michigan State and Texas. In both contests, the Tigers jumped out to big leads and set the tone.

Memphis responded to the challenge. This team plays with passion and you can tell they like each other. It has been quite a ride, with the lone loss this season coming against Tennessee.

Derrick Rose has looked like a man playing against boys. His size, strength and physical ability has been on display. All he did against two quality teams in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight was total 48 points, 14 assists, 10 rebounds and shoot 17-of-26 from the field. That is what I call taking charge; pretty good for a diaper dandy!

Chris Douglas-Roberts showed why he is a member of my All-Solid Gold team with great performances as well.

Free throws were not a factor in either game as Memphis took away the pressure by jumping out to big leads. I still feel that is a potential Achilles heel in a close game.

Calipari joins a rare group, taking two different schools to a Final Four (he took Massachusetts in 1996). Rick Pitino is the only man to take three, but the list of coaches taking two is impressive: it includes the likes of Larry Brown, Lute Olson and Roy Williams.

Now we have a great Final Four matchup between Memphis and UCLA. I picked a UCLA-North Carolina final before the tournament, so I have to stick with it.

The Bruins will have to be more efficient offensively if it is to beat the Tigers. This Memphis team also defends very well, so this has the makings of a vintage battle.
