Coug-tastic!

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Which team has been the most impressive so far in the tournament? Here is one candidate that has quietly gone about its business all season long.

How about a salute to Tony Bennett and his Washington State Cougars. Out in Pullman, Washington, people may be wondering if this program is getting enough respect. At 26-8, and 11-7 in the rugged Pac-10, there were some that felt the Cougars would not make it to the Sweet 16.

Washington State opened the season 14-0. This is an experienced team with a lot of veteran leadership. My friends, this is also a defensive dynamo! The Cougars were tied at halftime against Winthrop in the opening round. Bennett's team then proceeded to give up just 12 points in the second half against the Eagles.

Then against Notre Dame, Washington State held the Irish to 41 points and 25-percent shooting from the field. The Irish was averaging almost double the point total entering the game.

Realize that of Washington State's eight losses, seven came against teams in the big dance. This squad is not a fluke.

Derrick Low is an underrated guard. Kyle Weaver is an outstanding all-around performer. Aron Baynes up front did not miss a shot, going nine-for-nine from the field against Winthrop. Robbie Cowgill and Taylor Rochestie round out the talented starting five.

The Cougars will be a tough test for the winner of the North Carolina-Arkansas game in the Sweet 16. Bennett can flat out coach, just like his dad!
