SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Player of the week: Jerryd Bayless, Arizona

He came up with a pair of solid performances in wins for the Wildcats. He had 26 points (including 10-for-10 from the foul line), six assists and just one turnover in 37 minutes in a victory over top 10 Texas A&M. Earlier in the week, Bayless had 21 points, including eight-of-13 field goals in a win over Cal State-Fullerton.

Team of the week: Texas

The Longhorns scored the big win of the week, going into Pauley Pavilion as part of the Pac-10 vs. Big 12 challenge, leaving with a big two-point W! Rick Barnes' team was supposed to slide a bit with Kevin Durant going to the pros early. Nobody told DJ Augustin, AJ Abrams and company!

Coach of the week: Roy Williams, North Carolina

He led his Tar Heels to a pair of tough road wins. North Carolina won at Ohio State and at Kentucky. It is surprising to note the Tar Heels are off to their best start since 1998-99.

Diaper Dandy of the week: Eric Gordon, Indiana

The Hoosiers diaper dandy came through in a pair of big wins. He had 29 points in Indiana's close call over Georgia Tech. Gordon had a slow start but finished with 22 points in a victory at Southern Illinois, a hostile environment.

Shock of the week: Louisiana-Monroe winning at Iowa and Harvard over Michigan

In a week where there were plenty of candidates, think about these. The Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe went into Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 2-4 record and won behind Tony Hooper's 26 points. The Crimson gave Tommy Amaker a rewarding win over his former employer. Harvard beat Michigan by double figures in an emotional surprise.
