Amaker and the Ivy League

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

It will be really interesting to watch Tommy Amaker on the sidelines at Harvard this season.

I really enjoyed watching him as the floor general for the Duke Blue Devils. He was such a cerebral guy when he played that point guard slot at Duke. He was so unique and special; Amaker was all about winning.

As a leader and a guy on the floor, he did everything Mike Krzyzewski asked of him. He was an extension on that sideline.

He entered the fraternity, becoming the head coach at Seton Hall, and then Michigan. Things did not work out in Ann Arbor, but now he gets another opportunity.

A lot of times, head coaches leave and don't get another shot for several years. That was not the case here as Amaker as he gets the chance at Harvard. Boy does he fit that puzzle perfectly. They go together like a hand and a glove.

He will do a solid job at a program that was 12-16 last season, including 5-9 in Ivy League play. Harvard has had just four winning seasons over the last 22 campaigns, so there is work to do.

I believe he will get the players to respond and play as a team. He will get the Crimson into Ivy League contention in a short time. Amaker will be able to get them sharing the ball, making good decisions on the court.

Let em tell you, Amaker will be in his element. He was the perfect hire for the Crimson.

By the way, I can't wait for December 1, when Amaker and Harvard take on his former employer, Michigan, in Cambridge. The Crimson opens the season November 9th at Stanford, a tough test right away.
