A special King

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Do you remember the Cleveland Cavaliers? That's right, a team that was struggle city, baby, that at one time was laughed at by fans across America. That was then, this is now as LeBron James has made all the difference in the world.

Look at what this kid has done for the organization? Do you realize he is 22 years old?

I had to battle with my son-in-law, Thomas Krug, over how special LeBron James is. Thomas was a quarterback at Notre Dame and he should stick to football!

LeBron James is the greatest young talent that I have seen. He has performed at such a high level; just look at the 48-point performance against the Pistons!

He has had a bad game or two, but don't you think Michael the Magificent, Mr. Jordan, had a few tought nights? LeBron produced against a tough Pistons defense.

When it is all said and done, after another decade barring injuries, LeBron will be part of an argument over the best player of all-time. That's right, I feel the discussion will include Jordan, James and Kobe Bryant.

The NBA has to be thrilled to have LeBron James hooking up with Tim Duncan and the Spurs. Nothing against the Pistons, who certainly gave it their all. This has the makings of an exciting final series thanks to a young man they call King ... King James, my friends, is a very special player. He will only get better as he is just 22!

Dick Vitale coached the Pistons and the University of Detroit before broadcasting ESPN's first college basketball game in December 1979. Send him a question for possible use on ESPNEWS.
