DICKIE V'S WEEKLY AWARDS
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adam Haluska, Iowa and Al Thornton, Florida State
Haluska totaled 50 points and 15 rebounds in wins over Michigan (on the road) and Indiana. Thornton totaled 48 points and 15 rebounds in wins over Maryland and at Duke. The Seminoles earned their first victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: North Carolina State
Sidney Lowe had to be proud of his Wolfpack after back-to-back wins over teams that were leading the ACC at the time of their game. First came a stunner at Virginia Tech, followed by a big victory over Roy Williams' Tar Heels.
COACH OF THE WEEK: Sidney Lowe, NC State
Most prognosticators figured the Wolfpack would contender for the basement in the ACC. Engin Atsur has been sidelined for much of the season. Andrew Brackman opted for baseball. NC State stunned Virginia Tech and North Carolina and let me tell you, Lowe is going to be a star down in Raleigh. He has a cool demeanor and he will get the job done.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Kevin Durant, Texas
He continues to dominate in the Big 12 and this is not a broken record. The performance against Texas Tech (37 points, 23 rebounds) was amazing. He followed that up with 32 points and nine rebounds in a Maalox Masher, a loss to Bob Huggins' Kansas State Wildcats.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Colorado over Oklahoma State
Sean Sutton's squad went into Boulder with an 18-3 record. The Buffs were 5-13 entering the contest. It was shock city as Colorado scored an 89-77 victory. The Buffs had the edge on the glass and on the scoreboard, baby!
