Time of year for T.O. to play Grinch

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

I am really tired of hearing Terrell Owens moan, cry and whine when he doesn't get the ball. Come on, this guy is a problem everywhere he has been. I don't give a darn how good he is; do we really have to put up with this nonsense?

With T.O., it is all about me, me, me, me. I think his teammates accept it, understand it is not going to change and it's part of the package when it comes to Owens. It is all about Owens, and he has carried this baggage everywhere he has been.

There's no question he has star talent. He is a terrific athlete, but after a while you get sick and tired of the whining, the excuses and the negative attitude. You want to be around team players, around winners, guys who are about the whole unit first and foremost.

In sports, there is a loss of respect for authority, and, in many cases, people fail to do the right thing. Look at what has happened with the Cincinnati Bengals this season. Check out what is going on with Tank Johnson of the Bears. What about the issues involving the Indiana Pacers, most notably Stephen Jackson?

Why are people hanging around bars where shootings are taking place? Why be involved in after-hours situations that can only lead to negative consequences? You get sick and upset about hearing these situations.

In the NBA, the players should thank commissioner David Stern for all of the beautiful things he is trying to do. He is selling them on responsibility and on marketing themselves in a positive way.

Why can't we have more guys like Dwyane Wades, someone who throws Christmas bashes for needy kids. Wade certainly has not forgotten about where he's come from! You want to root and cheer for that kind of guy. There are good guys out there like Derek Jeter, Tim Duncan and Grant Hill, athletes you care for and feel good about. They're good people who are accountable and handle responsibility.

I feel this is becoming an issue in the work place across America as well. There are rules and regulations and you have to have respect for authority; I think we are getting away from that. Respecting authority is important.

The bottom line is some athletes feel they can do what they want because they make all the money in the world. Simply, it does not buy happiness and T.O. is not a happy person.

In fact, at this time of the year, T.O. is the grinch.
