WEEKLY AWARDS
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Allan Ray, Villanova
The Wildcats have been in the top 10 for most of the season and Ray is one of the key reasons why. He started his week off with 26 points and eight rebounds in a 79-73 win over Louisville. Ray had 28 big points as Villanova rallied to edge Marquette last Saturday, 72-67.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Georgia
Dennis Felton has done a terrific job with this young squad and the Bulldogs scored a couple of big victories to move to 14-8 overall. The Bulldogs beat a hungry Alabama squad, then scored an upset win at Vanderbilt, a very difficult place to play. Could Georgia make a run for an NCAA berth?
COACH OF THE WEEK: Roy Williams, North Carolina
What a magnificent job Williams has done this season after losing the top seven scorers from last year's national championship squad. The Tar Heels had an impressive win at Maryland and followed that up with the 52nd straight home win over Clemson. Reyshawn Terry was impressive in the two wins, totaling 39 points and 20 rebounds.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Penn State over Illinois
The Nittany Lions rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit and survived a scare when Rich McBride's potential game-winning shot was ruled to occur after the buzzer. Penn State entered the game 2-6 in Big Ten play. The stunner snapped the Illini 33-game home win streak.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Trent Plaisted, BYU
The 6-11 big man from San Antonio is the leading scorer for the Cougars, and he came through in a couple of huge wins. He scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds vs. Air Force. Earlier in the week he had 13 points and five boards as BYU snapped New Mexico's 21-game home win streak. The Cougars now have their own four-game win streak and stand at 14-6.
