Jan. 5, 1967

In his 21st season with the Detroit Red Wings, Gordie Howe continues to add to his legend. With two goals against Chicago, Mr. Hockey is the first to reach 700.

The 38-year-old right wing scores No. 699 on a slick backhander against Blackhawks goalie Denis DeJordy in the first period of Detroit's 6-4 win at home. He achieves his milestone goal 19 seconds after coming out of the penalty box in the second period. Taking a pass from Andy Bathgate, he flips his shot past DeJordy into the upper left corner.

It is Howe's 635th goal in the regular season. The other 65 have come in the playoffs.
