By Larry Schwartz

Dec. 15, 1962

Oregon State's Terry Baker had become the first West Coast player to win the Heisman Trophy after leading the nation in offense. Today, the senior quarterback accounts for the only points in the Liberty Bowl when his breath-taking 99-yard run in the first period gives the Beavers a 6-0 victory over Villanova.

The versatile Baker, who will graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, will complete a unique "double" in the spring when he will lead Oregon State's basketball team into the Final Four.
